Take the shot or not. It’s your choice and your body.

that would be valid if what you did had no effect on others, or society as a whole. But that’s not the case, so your statement makes as much sense as someone smoking indoors saying “my body, my choice.” Obviously the orders of magnitude may be different, but it’s analogous because your choice affects others. We all give up some freedoms to live in close proximity to one another.

So what exactly are you implying?? Get the vaccine “or else”?!? Or else what??? It essentially comes down to personal choices and mitigating risks you find unacceptable. It’s not up to you to tell me that I have to get a vaccine. That choice is mine to make.

It’s not a bad analogy. The only thing that I would add is that everyone that goes to that restaurant knows that you can smoke indoors.

So if I hate second hand smoke, I’m not going inside. Same with COVID. If I’m not vaccinated, I probably better stay a safe distance from others indoors. Or just choose to eat outside.

Smoking indoors is not banned in the US. It varies from state to state. Just the way it should be with COVID. Great analogy.

Your point is valid up to a point because many things that you or I do as an individual has an effect on society. The trash that you dispose of, the fuel your car burns, the meat that you eat, the power that you use to power your home...etc you can see where I’m going...all has an effect not only on your local society but also on our global society. Collectively we participate in destroying the planet that we call home. Collectively we vote for this or that candidate that then uses our consent to bomb women and children in Iraq. God knows what all of our tax dollars are being used for.

As far as freedoms..I give up none willingly. Just like contract negotiations once you give something up you have to beg like hell to get it back. Thankfully this vaccine is voluntary and we have not been pressed by the government to take them by force. If we ever reach that point then a virus will be the last thing to be concerned about in America.

Non-UA guy trying to clear up the vax requirements there. I understand current pilots are not required to get the shot, however new employees will need to be. Are new hire pilots required to be vaccinated?

There is no current requirement for current pilots to get the vaccine, just the LOA which encourages people to get it through add pay. It also penalizes those who don’t if another country mandates the vaccine by removing that pilot without pay and forbidding them from picking up something else during that time. All new hire pilots are required to be vaccinated.
