I buy halfwingers meals and drinks every chance I get. Should I stop since everything costs so much for me????

I also leave a tip for the maids but no need to go down that rabbit hole.

In 2008, I made less than $28,000 as a United FO. That’s a little less than $38,000 today, according to an inflation calculator I found online. I don’t consider that “remarkably similar” to today’s first year pay. And that was followed by over a 4 year furlough. So while our first year pay could use some improvement, it in my opinion is nothing like it used to be.

You have to survive in order to succeed.

Nope your first year pay is not remarkably similar today as compared to mine in 1997. Not even close, not to mention we had to pay for our own housing during initial training, all reserve was short call, just to name a couple of other things that have been dramatically improved.

I always tipped and you can too, don’t be “that” guy.

I got hired in 2000 at $24/hr. Call it $24K. I ran it through an inflation calculator and that's equivalent to just $40,070.24 today. During most of the last 22 years, there wasn't much inflation.
I always tipped as a halfwinger and I survived.
I've also been furloughed twice for almost 9 years total, on LTD for 3 years for cancer, and upgraded at the first opportunity ~18 1/2 years after I got hired.

Everyone has a financial sob story to tell. However, pilot financial sob stories are much more trivial than the financial sob stories of van driver and other service workers who work for tips.

No matter how you spell it, I tip for prompt service, not for showing up to do your job. Sometimes I listen to the why I’m late story and sometimes it makes a difference.

Tip who you want, how much you want. I wont think any more or less of you.

Tip:
$2 for the hotel van
$5 for the limo drivers

Buy beer and food for every FO that tips, but not if they don't.
