To be clear, under current book, a new hire has an 8-D-1 equipment training freeze that starts on day 1 of basic indoc per 8-D-5. That means they may bid up in band but not laterally or down. The company may decide to waive freezes on a case by case basis after consultation with the SSC per 8-D-6.

Rumor has it TA2 will fix this so that your seat lock starts on the day of your job offer & lasts in perpetuity. You can get a UAL employee number but you’re frozen on type & pay at your present regional or military position for the rest of your career.

Over 1200 people hired a year ago coming off probation, most on the coast, wouldn’t be a bad exchange for that pay bump based on their current schedules

This is true & unfortunately I think is crushing our resolve to fight for meaningful pay increases. With the 15% or so we’ve lost to inflation since our last bump, NB FO is no longer meeting a lot of people’s needs. But since pretty much anyone can hold NB CA now, it’s not seen as a problem- just upgrade in 12 months if you need more $$$! Obviously that’s not a realistic long-term solution. FO will go back to a decade+ gig eventually. It used to pay accordingly & needs to keep up with the changing times.

That’s always been the case. Our strength has always come from the unity of those on property, not any lack of hopeful applicants. We all welcome & understand those who want to work here. I’m just concerned that current opportunities are leading those of us already here to be okay with a system where instead of being a “cherry on top” end to a great career, upgrade is becoming more of an expedient necessity for a comfortable (not lavish) lifestyle.
