I would rather continue the EWR commute and stay on B787 than be based in TPA or MCO as 737/320 CA.
Still think the quality of life would be better @40% EWR787FO than as junior line holder based in Florida. The pay difference would be minimal between the two and probably would lose an extra 2 to 3 days off a month on the narrowbody fleet.
Curious to see if I am just an outlier here or if there are others that would do the same.

And I can't disagree because EACH pilot has to weigh their own Pro's and Con! Not taking the Home Base upgrade will just leave it open for the next pilot to make a choice.
This WILL help the company out.. but now we get to the Carrot and the Cart part.
MANY Pilots wanted a FLA base for years.. but the company knew that and had no reason to do it.. even as a break even or slight profit, they "expected" a cost to be given from the pilot group/ALPA.
Now the tides have turned-
So what will the union be wanting to give the company the ability to open new bases.
the REAL kicker is the "satellite" base thing. Looking at MCO and TPA.. think that is WAY to far to consider it one base. But could other airports be considered "satellite" bases?
With the coming of the A321's in '24ish, I still think we will see a Airbus base in BOS. But again, every solution brings about new questions-
Do 73/Guppy pilots switch to the bus just to live close to a base.. do you accept the possibility of International European Flying?
(Kinda makes 5:20 per day important now- 3 day BOS-LHR pays 15:00 now but could/should pay 16:00. An increase of an hour but more importantly, not longer getting 6 crossing a month as a junior guy/gal but limited to 5!)
If the goal is to really be a Leader in the Industry.. we need a legit WB that can also feed the Florida Market, maybe the Vegas Market.. and Bases there starts to solve some of these problems.
(Mind you.. a 78 in Vegas can also be tasked for domestic flying! and might also be a good place to do some charter ops)
Good to think out of the Box..
Always

There probably are! But that’s a good thing; the variety of preferences would give junior pilots more possibilities. What you mentioned is exactly why a lot senior FAs that could easily hold MCO prefer to commute to other bases. Still, the MCO FA base is not understaffed.
Personally, I would rather sit on reserve as a narrowbody CA for years if I only had to drive 15 minutes to get to work.
