Also why I’m seeing some people saying MCO/TPA? What is meant by shared base? Like a satellite base for starting out and finishing TPA?
"I'm your Huckleberry"

Right now all I can say is it will be very senior on the senior side and very junior on the junior side. A co-domicile means you would have pairings that start at both bases. TPA trips will likely go senior and the MCO trips will probably do crappy turns to BQN in the middle of the night thus going junior...

YMMV. Bid what you want, want what you bid.

There is some precedent with satellite/codomicile whatever you want to call it in NY and LA- ie you cover LGA/EWR/JFK depending on fleet, LA you cover a few in the area. I’m guessing it’ll be a codomicile simply because they’re close, and we have a medium sized presence in both, so why not cover them all? You’ll always end the trip in the same base you started from and you get “crosstown pay” for the satellite airport.

Got it, so I see all this talk about senior time for wide body upgrades. How long would we be talking for upgrading on a wide body then? If you were to compare to say Denver? If it goes senior, what’s a worse case scenario time wise? Probably a dumb question, but I’m curious to see how long it would take to wait it out in the right seat.

So if it’s a wide body or a NB base though, from what I gather either way it’s likely you could snag a spot in MCO, driving in.

Got it, thanks. So from what I gather either way if MCO became a wide body or a NB base a junior guy would likely be able to snag a position over there pretty quickly then eh?

Probably another dumb question, but all the talk about senior wide body upgrade times… what would be a pretty realistic timeframe comparing it to as you say another senior domicile such as Denver. How long would one have to wait it out in the right seat?

MCO and TPA are pretty far apart. Are there any distance restrictions on co-domiciles?

Too early to tell but I could see a few ways it goes junior on the fo side. A lot of people have found their niche and will need to be convinced this is better than their current role and there will be a lot of unknowns with pairing quality and mix of flying. Our FA satellite bases do a lot of out and back day trips.

I would rather continue the EWR commute and stay on B787 than be based in TPA or MCO as 737/320 CA.

Still think the quality of life would be better @40% EWR787FO than as junior line holder based in Florida. The pay difference would be minimal between the two and probably would lose an extra 2 to 3 days off a month on the narrowbody fleet.

Curious to see if I am just an outlier here or if there are others that would do the same.

There probably are! But that’s a good thing; the variety of preferences would give junior pilots more possibilities. What you mentioned is exactly why a lot senior FAs that could easily hold MCO prefer to commute to other bases. Still, the MCO FA base is not understaffed.

Personally, I would rather sit on reserve as a narrowbody CA for years if I only had to drive 15 minutes to get to work.

Hey the Brightline will soon be open (privately built fast train between MCO and FLL). Why not just make it MCO-TPA-FLL co-domicile.

Make sure you factor in your 3 or 4 commutes to EWR wasting in average 6-8 hours each time. There's a day or 2 back right there.

Contractually not that I could find. It will bump up crosstown pay and make reserve callouts longer for whichever airport ends up as the non-primary. Up to the company whether that makes sense or not vs having two smaller bases.
