Keep your application up to date. Friend of mine got the TBNT in March and just got another interview scheduled. The year wait may not be a thing anymore...

My guess is LAS or Phx. The need a way to get around the California rest and meal break laws. American announced the pull-down of their sfo crew base as a result of the courts ruling that flight crews are not exempt. All flights 4 hours require 10 min off duty. And 5 hours require 30 minutes. A city with hourly flights close enough to still do transcontinental service in a single duty is what they are after, my guess. I have noticed that on the fa side there are extra crew when there are California based crew working longer flights

TPA just announced a new terminal. Construction starts in 2024, planned to open in 2027.

I think mco/tpa would pull a lot of senior people down from ewr, iad, and iah. Right now the g-line is around 8 or 9 years but if it drops to 3 or 4 it could make those positions desirable. Captain reserve is 250,000 a yr but a junior lineholder is 300,000. Plus it opens up more options for people to do whatever they want. Commute to widebody vs live in mco and do boring out and backs... I doubt a new base will have much trip diversity but to someone that might work.

I did submit a new application internally a couple months ago. Need the link to get back to it. I can’t seem to find the email they sent me

My guess is they would have pairings route from the new bases through existing bases.

Default Question for United Guys, about MCO

So, say if MCO is the base to be announced. Can any of you United guys shed some light on how long it would take a new hire to even see that base in the future? Is it even a realistic consideration for someone to think they will be able to drive into work someday, or are these pipe dreams? I’m guessing this would be a very senior base?
Also why I’m seeing some people saying MCO/TPA? What is meant by shared base? Like a satellite base for starting out and finishing TPA?

impossible to say. It’s entirely dependent on type and number of aircraft. If it’s a small widebody base then it’ll take years, if it’s large narrowbody then maybe as a new hire.

Ny WAG is it will probably go very senior on the captain side and less so on the FO side. Look at some traditionally very senior bases- CLE, IAH, DEN- new hires are getting these in indoc or shortly after. Captains much less so.

There is some precedent with satellite/codomicile whatever you want to call it in NY and LA- ie you cover LGA/EWR/JFK depending on fleet, LA you cover a few in the area. I’m guessing it’ll be a codomicile simply because they’re close, and we have a medium sized presence in both, so why not cover them all? You’ll always end the trip in the same base you started from and you get “crosstown pay” for the satellite airport.
