Seriously? June 28, 1998 went unnoticed for a LONG time.

This is what happens when you hire a Riddle Kid with less than 2000 hours TT and put him in the right seat of a 777.

"crew received additional training"

FO wasn’t the Pilot Flying (or trying to at least).

The real question is how they managed to turn the aircraft in 2.5 hours after pulling 2.7g’s. The logbook would be a interesting read.

At accel height, CA (PF) called for flaps 5. FO went through the gate and selected flaps 1. When climb rate dissipated, CA looked over to see the lever and unknowingly banked over as well. CA became disoriented and neither pilot noticed the dive until the GPWS warning. 2.7Gs at 775’ AGL to recover.

jeeeesssusss. I don't think UAL would survive an accident like that.

NTSB: “American 106, you missed your turn, cut off Delta 1943 on its takeoff roll, barely acknowledged it and almost immediately took off for Europe? That’s really poor judgement?!”

UAL 1722: “Hold my beer.”

He did raise the flaps too far, and then fail to confirm what he did. I've done the former, but always caught it. According to the rumor above anyway.

Interesting if this comes down to a very low inexperienced FO and a 60+ CA.

Unless the 777 has some extra padding on load factor ratings they probably shouldn't have continued after a high-G event. Especially with flaps out.

I know there’s rumors galore on this. I had heard from a few UAL that it was also a new CA. Not sure if that’s true, or even what they define as new, but might make for an overloaded flight crew in those conditions if both were that fresh.

Is there another source that contradicts the 2:49pm “Hawaii Time” departure?
