United Swaps MAX-10s with A-321 NEOs
https://seekingalpha.com/news/407977...airbus-a321neo
Oddly enough this lines up with JetBlue and Spirit's deferred Airbus orders from 2025-2027...
"In July, Spirit deferred its A320-series orders from 2025-27 deliveries out through 2029"
"Most significantly, JetBlue has deferred some $2.5 billion of Airbus aircraft deliveries expected in 2024-27, to 2028 and beyond."
The years match up exactly.

A lease may not be ideal...but some positive movement.

"United has reportedly been in talks with Airbus recently to obtain production slots left vacant by JetBlue (JBLU) and Spirit (SAVE) after the two carries postponed orders for the A320 aircraft. The new Airbus aircraft are due to be delivered between 2025 and 2027"
Were Spirit and JetBlue going to lease those planes or buy them? If they were going to buy them, then United is probably going to buy those specific planes and then lease the rest. it needs to be at least 200-250 if they are going to replace the Max10 entirely.

Friendly Pilot, I believe the leases from the Bunsiness Insider article were A321s. So, maybe you called it. UAL might be looking to buy the A320s JB and Spirit left on the table AND looking to replace Max 10s with A321s on lease (in the short run anyways) until UAL can receieve the Max 10s at a later date. This would keep United Next moving forward while sorting out a long-term solution.

Maybe a combination. From the article...

It will be interesting to see going forward if the 737 remains the growing fleet, or if the Airbus will take over the NB market. I think it depends on if the MAX10 can get sorted out in a reaonsable time frame, then I think UAL will prefer that over any Airbus. It is interesting how things can change on a whim in this business. For the longest time UAL was deepthroating the 737 with hundreds of orders, to now basically trickling in and stunting growth plans. Will like to see how it all plays out. Could ptoentially be bad news for 737 drivers.

Pretty much the same for every pilot at UA.

I guess it’s easier to deepthroat a little 737 than a thick-bodied 777..?
