This was a while back and he had made his slot available. I'm sure that it has been picked up by now, but that is only because hiring has slowed significantly and captain is going more senior. If we were still hiring at ludicrous speed I'm sure that he would have been stuck with his award. We've hired plenty of high time pilots such as ULCC captains who will do just fine with quick upgrades, but we've also hired plenty of people that we would have never considered prior to the pandemic. Wanting to bid captain is one thing, but forced upgrades regardless of if it's at the regionals or legacies is a bad idea. I'm hoping that future growth happens at a level where captain vacancies only go to those who feel ready and bid it.
thanks for keeping up the fallacy

Yup, the most junior CA award on this last bid was an 11K number, which is... about a 2019 hire? Not actually sure, but 11K is roughly 73 pct company wide. As stated, not a single CA at UAL went to upgrade training against their will. Judging by what's happened with CA vacancies these last few bids, it's highly highly unlikely that we'll ever see actual forced upgrades..

heard from LHR van driver that they are adding some basic surgical equipment in the med bags… FAs will be able to do minor emergency surgery like tracheostomy with med link doctor video oversight. Can’t wait for starlink!!!

No one is currently being forced to upgrade and it is only a fallacy today because hiring as slowed significantly. If hiring had continued at the previous rate, these people would have been forced into upgrade. I'm grateful that it isn't happening right now, but it is a big fault in this contract. Hopefully hiring remains at a reduced level where this doesn't become an issue again. Between Boeing and Airbus delivery delays, I don't see that being a problem any time soon.
