Some one asked if LUAL pilot carry flight bags and do updates?
Haven't done a revision in about eight years due to the shipsets. I do enjoy using the iPad for my personal edition of the FOM, WOM and FM. It is so much easier than having to pull pages out and put new ones in.
The problem with the company iPad is expectation. You want an iPad go buy one and have fun or better yet buy a MacBook Air for your personal use.

Doubt any implementaion in early 2013. They are not yet required, but if carried, must be up to date. FAA violation if they are not. Just like using a set of Jepps out of date.
Now, UAL IT has not been capable of installing wireless networks with enough band width to connect more than 2 iPads at once, without the wireless completely locking up. SFO is a joke. Don't know about anywhere else, but doubt it is much better.
Heck, the new Sabre flight planning system, a thing we have to use to fly, won't even work on half the computers in any flt ops. My guess is to avoid a complete meltdown, iPad problems won't be addressed for a long time.

Effective February 1, Flight Operations will begin a phased approach to replace paper manuals (FM, FOM, and WOM) with sole use of the Class 1 iPad Electronic Flight Bag (EFB).
With this approval, the final steps to fully remove paper manuals from the flight deck will be accomplished pursuant to the below timeline. The requirement to carry paper Jeppesen aeronautical charts, QRH (if installed), hard card checklists and standalone reference guides remains unchanged.
Timeline:
Feb. 1, 2013
Pilots using a traditional pilot maintained flight bag may opt to use the iPad and discontinue carrying the paper WOM. See the Criteria For Pilots To Use iPad In Lieu Of Paper Manuals outlined below.
Feb. 15, 2013
Deadline for all pilots to check out their assigned iPad. Any pilot not having checked out their iPad by this date will be placed on NQ status until doing so. The iPad is required pilot equipment for all flight and training events. To help gain proficiency, the iPad must be used as the primary method for referencing FM, FOM and WOM material. This allows ample time for pilots to become comfortable with using the iPad functions before the paper FM, FOM and WOM are removed in April (see the list of essential skills below).
April 18, 2013
The existing paper FM, FOM and WOM become out of date and obsolete. The iPad is the only authorized source for these manuals on the Flight Deck.

Anyone else find it unbelievable that this company can't roll out the IPads to the fullest ability any sooner? I've had wi-fi in my house for almost a decade. With this crappy contract, I should never have to do a revision ever again! Who is in charge of this massive blunder? I want some heads to roll! That is all........rant over.
