What to do about Contract Violation
#61
.I'm just ANOTHER pilot hosed by scope relaxation and age 65. I am excited but not all that optimistic about ALPA's desire to bring all flying in-house.

50 or 70 seats made no difference with exception to a few grandfathered 146's.
A decade after contract 2000 we have pilots hired during that time going from mainline to express as new hires.

It is my sincere hope that the pilots of UAL and CAL together will draw the line on outsourcing any jet aircraft as the number one contract demand.

The pilots at skywest are NOT the problem. Management is the problem. While we are bickering over who took our job or how much they get paid the next scumbag move from management is already in motion.
I understand the knee jerk reaction of anger towards skywest but this is exactly what management wants. They want you to have your jumpseat war and to protest and pout. It detracts from our image as professionals and makes us look childish. They can then use this against us in court as an "illegal job action" or as ammunition in arbitration. It is a battle that will be fought and won in a court or at a negotiating table. A jumpseat battle is a mere inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. Who is more at fault the jumpseater or the scumbag in first class on a PS0B pass?
The best way to fight this is to stop negotiating in public, start pushing ALPA to make a safety issue out of regionals, and fly S.A.F.E. (slow and F expensive) until your court date.

The interesting thing is that the pilots who might end up based out of IAH might just be UAL furloughs hired at SKYW via an agreement with UAL's ALPA: The last two classes hired (the first in over two years) were almost all UAL furloughs.
Kind of makes your head spin.

The way I see this going down is the company backs down then tries to play scope vs jcba compensation. We (cal) had scope that was never challenged until this merger debacle. Now the merger goes through and our livelihoods are immediately attacked. The company is looking to attack something that they can trade. But we are not trading. We HAVE scope. We do not need to negotiate or trade for it. I hope the ual guys who do not have 70 seat protection will not take the 10 percent raise (20 or 30) and keep their current scope at the peril of losing the 50 seat protection cal has now. I see this as the play management is making. Just convince 51% that a pay raise is sufficient as they already have the 70 seaters. It's easy to accept the lack of scope in a new contract when you are on property and you don't have it anyway. Hopefully that doesn't happen on either side.

Just got the letter from the MEC. November 29th SkyWest CRJ class with 20 slots. Looks like IAH will be staffed with furloughed UA pilots, just like it was when they opened an EMB base there in 2003 (for 2 years).

So, SCUMBAG MANAGEMENT is pulling this ruse to get everyone to believe they really want to continue the current set-up as is. What really is going on is the SCUMBAG MANAGEMENT is looking for a lesser JCBA in order to "surrender" something to mainline pilots that they already intend to surrender anyway. They want every mainline pilot to pay a price to head the industry in a direction that they (SCUMBAG MANAGEMENT) already know makes sense for industry to head.
Almost makes your head spin what a mind-**** this actually is.

I can remember a time when I was sitting side-saddle on a tri-motor when Captains at UAL refused to allow CAL pilots their jumpseats because they were all "scabs". This was after Lorenzo's carnage was over and several CAL pilots, who had NOT crossed a picket line, were being recalled. You can't punish the pilots for acts of their management al la Frank Lorenzo. My jumpseat is open to any pilot from any approved CASS airline trying to go to or from work...Anytime. Really guys; denying a jumpseat for these SkyWest Pilots is like punishing a child for the acts of their parents.
