I love it!

Maybe YOU can tell why some on this board and the UAL board say that Guam is such a great place if one is single. Again, except for semi easy access to Asia, what's the big deal?

Come on, don't be shy....inquiring minds wanna know.

Just got done training in IAH and couldn't get back on the plane fast enough. Unless you've really got a thing for fat chicks, or fat people in general, it's beyond me why anyone from the states would look down on Guamanians. Been out here 15 years and I still think that IAH and EWR are the most depressing places on the face of the earth.

Chomorros don't hate "Americans". The highest percentage of military participation per capita is right here on Guam and most would take a very dim view of any foolish enough to suggest to their face that they're not "American". In fact, I would as well. According to some semantics being espoused here US Citizens aren't "Americans" unless they're born in America. I'm sure that's great news to the populace of central and south America. I guess your trying to say you're not "American" unless you're born in NORTH America - oh, wait, there's though pesky Canadians...

Guam is a great place for people who are into the outdoors. Lots of hiking, biking, diving, kiteboarding, etc. but it's definitely not for everyone, particularly the less adventurous. If your only concern is where your going to get laid, you're not going to last long. That said there's no shortage of doughy looking pilots on the Manila flight bound for Burgos St...

You mean to tell me that we can't schedule crews through that part of the earth to cover that flying? Anyone in management with intelligence could.
Sounds like modified cabotage to me. That, and employee abuse. I have spent enough of my life trying to make a career out of this job, only to have been furloughed twice. This is what our career has come to? Being an American based in Guam? Rediculous. What is this WWII? I know this is quite the rant, and expect a lot of razzing, so, let it begin..........
Guam is not a base it's a hub. There are CAL 76 crews (soon to be UAL crews) that are based in the states that fly trips through Guam, but the flying based here is 737 800/700 that largely caters to the Japan tourism market. It's not cabotage any more than flying out of Kansas is cabotage because Guam is a US territory. Being an "American based in Guam" I have a monthly FBA and fly ten one-day out-and-backs a month that average about 7:45 a trip. I'm home every night and don't do layovers. If you think that's employee abuse, I strongly encourage you not to bid it. Feel free to stay home in Oklohama, but please don't dick it up for those of us who like the option of living and working here. Let me reiterate - PEASE feel free not to bid Guam. Really.

I'm glad that it works for you, good on ya my man.
I wouldn't expect anyone to understand what it is like being a two time furloughee being offered a job opportunity that could have me uprooting my family of 5 to move to a hub called Guam. Either that , or commute and never see them. Pardon my mis-classification of the Guam flying, it does sound like a good thing for those who want to live there. I don't, and don't worry - I would never bid it , it's all you man....enjoy!
Good info for those of us furloughees that could go there though.

What about the JR pilot? Is the lifestyle on Reserve weak? How short on coverage do they get out there? I hear rent is steep on the Island because the military BAQ is $1900/m now and that drives rents up. Do you have kids? I hear local schools are a nightmare unless you can afford a private education or do home-schooling. Is there a sense of disconnect from Mainland happenings? Do you like the small base too? (65 crews?) Thanks for all your positive feedback..

1st off there are plenty of openings in EWR and IAH on this bid. With your well rounded sense of life you'll fit in wonderfully in Bubba Land. Sorry mate but getting furloughed twice doesn't give you a pass on sounding like a dolt. I'm proud to be from The US, but man folks that talk like you really make The States look bad.

You got ALL that out of MY post? Jesus. So much for the relaxed island mentality. Touchy touchy. And since you brought it up, I live in neither IAH or EWR. To each their own.

If you haven't been thru what a furloughed United pilot has over the last 11-12 years that many of us have, you'll have to forgive the attitude. The first bid is expected to have 8 of the 12 slots going to GUM.

I'm a bit confused.....who's fat?...Guamanians or the folks in Houston and Newark?

Speaking of which.....United has some of the fattest, ugliest, most nasty assed f/as in the industry. Are you talkin' about fat flying partners?

Chomorros don't hate "Americans".
That's nice to hear....seeing how they are aprox 37% of the population. The rest of the 160,000 or so being...26% filipino, 11% Pacific Islander and small amts of misc.

Again, I know jack about Chamorros, but filipinas can be hot. Problem though is that the island is in fact a sausage factory...more dudes than gals and I can't even begin to imagine the bar scene when the fleet arrives. A MEGA sausage factory.

Obviously, you must be a happily married guy....good for you. Again, for the SINGLE guy, you gotta have some good (affordable) night life going on...and I ain't talkin' strip clubs, massage parlors or those joints there where the dumb bastards pay some imported broad $20 for 1 drink, just to talk.

I think the Give Up And Masterbate guy had it right. Just amazing how much bad information is on these boards....

Somebody should just say "HEY....all you single UAL pilots considering Guam.....if you're GAY and into outdoor schitt, then Guam is the place for you!!!

There...now I'll have to go spread some HONESTY on Tripadvisor and I haven't even been to the bloody place! Sheeeesh.
