Mountains of cash

What got my attention was the comment about legacy United taking delivery of 737 900ER's beginning next year to replace the 757's. They may be replacements but it's going to require a lot of people to spool that up.

In very simple terms, we put our desire to capture revenue synergies from the merger ahead of our ability to support those plans.

Wrong!
All there is to do is place a bid for the for the new LUAL (assuming no sli) pilot base and send them to the CAL training. You didn't think they would build a whole NEW training course or SOPs for LUAL pilots, did you?
Personally I believe this is why there are rumors afloat about tying things in the contract to the sli, they want to get it done.
As to the pilot who said there will be a 90% NO vote of the up and coming TPA, I believe with the exception of the two major blogs and the same people who post on them it will be a major passing of any TPA given to the two pilot groups after PASSING the MECs first.
But my opinion isn't worth a nickle.

I have done many offsites training while at United, ( SEA flight safety, lufthansa, airbus in MIA ect.) but always with United instructors. Until there is a JCBA and SLI I believe that our separate contracts will still govern.
United has long shut down the B737 fleet department( support and staff). I don't think that S-UAL could run a NEW fleet with S-CAL B737 fleet department over seeing it. Again contract prohibitive....
UCH would love to try it but...JCBA first...

"S-UAL contract says that United pilots will be trained by United instructor pilots on the United pilot seniority list."
Still a piece of cake. They don't need another LUAL fleet just the PIs and Standards Capts. Also in case you didn't know it it wasn't that long ago that LUAL had a 737 fleet and many if not most PIs and Stds Capts are still around all they need is a requal course and approval according to the now UAL OC.
Not a tough one and without a JCBA or ISL it will begin next year because at least 50 737-900s are slated to replace 757-200 at LUAL.
Of course it will be easier with a JCBA.

They can train furloughed sUAL pilots to fly the sCAL current/future 737s indefinitely. Once all the 1457 sUAL pilots have gone through the sCAL 737 schoolhouse and are flying mostly sCAL 737 aircraft, the sUAL SLI committee will have a strong point about UAL being right-sized for a merger--1457 UAL pilots were flying mostly UAL 737s and now they're flying CAL 737s? seems like a plan. Or a shell game.

Beginning next week, CO is hiring 12 a week at least thru October, most say well beyond that. CO does not have the available sim time to acccomodate UA starting a whole new fleet type. They could use Americans facilities as was done in the past, but they might be just as busy.
