From: B777 x2 furloughed from United
I last flew the HKG-SGN tag a couple of weeks ago. We had well over 300 pax each way - and this is in the off season. The SIN tag usually carries a similar load. This down gauging of equipment comes just in time for the Christmas and Chinese New Year season. Ia a sense we will be adapting passenger loads to capacity as opposed to matching the equipment to the needs of the market.. Now 4 aircraft will be doing the work of 2 since the 747s will be overnighting in HKG waiting for the the incoming 737s.
According to the station the newly appointed manager of the region that made this decision has already left.
On a positive note this will free up a lot of capacity to HKG, since we now will so limited on through passengers we can accommodate.
Is this what they call synergy ??

You know what they will say, the market is not showing any growth and that will give them the excuse to get rid of the 400s and replace them with the B787 in the future. I have tried to NRSA on the HKG and on NRT/TPE flights and they were completely full. Next we'll have RJs on them

With the TPA, parking United airplanes will cost the company a fortune. Every furloughed United pilot will get 4 months of severance and then is eligible for a vacancy at Continental for which they will be paid whatever they were making at United. And in the process the pilots will be offline in training for two months at a cost of what, 50K? Throw in some voluntaries like happened last time and you have guys making up to $190/hour to sit in the right seat of a 737.

Slight error in the pay when a furloughed UAL guy gets on with CAL. He is paid at the rate for his CAL seat at his years of service with UAL. I think the junior guy currently on the line at UAL has 10? years of service, so he would be paid as a CAL 737 f/o with 10 years of service instead of new hire rates.

What is the source for the updated information you posted? It contradicts the language in the TPA, and FAQ...

TRANSITION AND PROCESS LOA
7-B. Job Opportunities.
(i) If either Continental or United intends to hire new Pilots...
...Such Pilot will be paid the greater of (1) the actual hourly pay rate he was receiving on the date of his furlough, or (2) the hourly pay rate to which his years of service at the employing Airline otherwise entitles.
FAQ – Continental New Hire Opportunity – July 29, 2011
How much will I get paid?
You will be paid the rate you were receiving when furloughed from United or the hourly rate under the Continental CBA, considering your longevity only at CO, whichever is higher.

If a pilot had 10 active years at UAL, he'll receive that rate which will match what he made per hour upon leaving UAL regardless of seat at CAL. I know of one 76 Capt that accepted a job offer. He'll make his old pay rate regardless of what he is sitting in at CAL until some other trigger initiates a higher pay rate. That trigger would either be a JCBA and upon recall to vacated position or time/seat at CAL that equated to a higher pay rate. And to stress this point, even a JCBA won't trigger higher pay for a CAL "new hire." They'll be frozen at last UAL rate upon their furlough until they are recalled to their furloughed position or time/seat at CAL equates to a bump in pay that exceeds their last UAL pay.

I'm in the furloughed twice club...2003 and again in 2009. On recall in 2006? I sat on mil leave until furloughed again in 2009. Do the three years sitting on mil leave between furloughs count towards my "pay" (put me at 6 year pay), or if I go to continental, will I be paid my rate at my "original" furlough back in 2003? Finally, does anyone have the rate paid for 3 year 737 FO and 6 year 737 FO if that time does count. Sorry if this has already been asked. New to the groove.

Tigger, you should be coming back at year 6 rates and get 3 years' retirement contributions (the retirement contributions won't happen until you're recalled by UAL, not hired at CAL).
$84 for year 6; $75 for year 3. Airline Pilot Central - United | Legacy

Actually the A350 is supposedly the 744 replacement.
