"The CAL strikers had good reasons to strike, be it financial issues, medical reasons, what have you. If there is a strike in the future, these "good"guys will have our back and walk the picket line along side us. "

WOW this statement is so far out in left field I don't know what to say.

If one forgets the reason CAL went on strike in 1983 was Frank Lorenzo! He used BK laws to cut salaries and benefits because he thought they were too high.

His actions were considered contributory to the destruction of tens of thousands of lives.

Sorry, I posted too early in the morning, no coffee, and lack of sleep. Post edited. I was merely pointing out the excuses I have heard from some CAL pilots about why their SCABS are not frowned upon vs the destruction they can leave in their wake.

ST:

The problem is Lorenzo was the first big name new style managers who did "legal" things but their morals were lower than dirt. I also believe in 1983 WalMart was still selling "Made in the USA" and IBM built PCs in Florida. Boy have things changed.

Of course if the iPad was made in the USA today it would cost $1500 instead of $700 and Apple wouldn't be the richest corp in the USA.

Maybe to many morals are merely a personal perspective.

I'm not so sure. They're making plenty of money at $700 per iPad, they just choose to not spread the wealth in an extreme way. If they took a portion of that massive profit and used it to pay American workers (or ensure Chinese were paid fairly) it might still be $700.

Apple Earns More Money Per Employee Than Exxon
12:11 PM, Jan 23, 2012

Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- In an article published today by BusinessInsider.com - Apple reportedly earns $400,000 in profit per employee, putting them ahead of Exxon Mobile, Google, and Goldman-Sachs.

The wide profit margins are attributed to Apple's overseas factories employees being "more affordable," while offering more industrial skills than workers in the U.S.

When asked about bringing these jobs to the U.S., an Apple spokesman said "We sell iPhones in over a hundred countries. We don't have an obligation to solve America's problems. Our only obligation is to make the best product possible."

"Apple Earns More Money Per Employee Than Exxon"

That's because of creative accounting. They only look at the 40,000 employees actually employed by Apple and not the 150,000 Chinese working for various corps making the products. Bringing it home, UAL now has official about 10,000 pilots, but what about all those contract jets, how many pilots do they employ? 10,000, 20,000 additional?

I love the Apple products they are well built and actually work well, but when I stop to think about this kind of stuff, well.... the average Chinese Apple worker can't afford one. Kind of like the average jet pilot in the USA.

Just a thought or two.

WOW Track!! That was close. It's like catching a bullet in mid-flight after you've pulled the trigger. Thanks for the calcification.

In the history of the pilot profession there are far more strikers who eventually went on to retire from there struck companies than scabs who had taken their places during their strike. CAL may be the only exception where "scabs," hired to break a strike, were not stapled to the bottom of the list and pressure cooked into getting out early.

Wait. I thought there was a difference between CAL and UAL pilots? I mean from what I hear CAL pilots accept junior manning and volunteer regularly and UAL pilots never do that. Good to see you turned it down.

Thirteen plus years in the industry and have never been junior manned and never picked up open time.
