Pot & Kettle comes to mind.
Eh, I've been truer than most , including truer than the IRC thug that was harassing everybody all the while picking up anything he could. And yeah, I do choose to do the right thing (3 jm's in 15 years, give me a break). I'm guessing I could tear most calrecs apart with reserve days moved to pick up a trip, guys picking up extra time. Show me YOUR calrec for the last 15 years, I'm thinking I can find some transgressions. So, yeah, you're right, contract time, no jm, no problems. Peace out

Lets see, the poster I responded to seemed to make CAL as the bad guy because they had four times the number of scabs as UAL. It would seem obvious that there would be more scabs at CAL due to the duration of the strike.

SNA, respectfully, but your behind the times a bit. There may be a few organizations where that method of "resigning" still works and perhaps it did in the past at UAL but that has not been the case lately. I know of at least two people personally who "resigned" during the 08/09 mess and they are gone off the list. Why? Because during 08/09 the handful of airlines hiring knew they had UAL furloughees by the short and the curlies and demanded direct confirmation from respective HR's that they were gone and a seniority list with their name off it to prove they were gone.

The job market was so crappy they knew they could lock those people in and deny them the option to leave, even if it was a totally crappy place to work with a bleak future. I can attest to this experience personally and decided to retain my United number, despite the uncertain future at the time. For me to get to the level where I was getting interview calls from majors and holding a number at one of them was an accomplishment I was not willing to give up to others that didn't make it and resented me for it. Graduating to that level was a hard won fight as most of the ACTUAL pilots on this forum recall. Whether you wandered through the haze of fatigue flying freight, endured grueling mil deployments overseas or clawed your way up the RJ ranks, you had paid your dues...albeit bad timing squashed the supposed reward.

As tremulous as this industry is, at least those who have recall rights at UAL have a number at major in their back pocket and here's another thing, with the US Air/AA train wreck on the horizon I'd say if United gets their act together it and Delta are going to be the only two decent majors to be at in the future.

Regarding the hiring mins, all I can say is my UAL class was comprised entirely either of highly experienced mil or LCAs, captains or very high time FO's from national carrier or RJ operators. We didn't have anybody even close to those minimums described before and I expect if UAL takes resumes they'll start from that point and work their way down. If you really want to be competitive and get a call from a major at the beginning of this hiring have at least 1500 hours PIC jet over 50K (preferably 100K+), current 121 with check airman experience, a spotless credit, criminal and driving record and preferably a graduate level degree. As a Delta recruiter told a friend recently, "this is our ideal candidate". They'll start there and work their way down as they always have.

This time around, many airlines knew about the UA "resignation", and wouldn't even look at us. How many of us got interviews vs actually hired at VA (two that I can think of vs at least 50 that got interviews, 1 twice) and Allegiant's chief pilot wouldn't even consider us, since they were burned last time.

Yep, had that run around as well. One of the charming aspects of being furloughed is the stigma it carries.

So, did anyone attend? I am curious to hear if there is any new information from the UAL (or L-CAL) folks about potential hiring?

Ual line was 2.5 hrs long. Essentially they are going to hash out details this summer. Depends on recalls and classes available this fall not to mention if a CBA happens....

Wonder how long the line would be if they knew they were going to have to cross a picket line. Would not want UCH management walking away from these 2.5 hour long wait lines with a false sense of security.

To clarify the 2.5 hour line, this was towards the end. Seemed lime everyone went to US Airways, SWA, Virgin, Quatar and Emerites first then said 'F it, I'm here......may as well talk to UAL."

I only waited 45 or so minutes to talk to them. A small percentage of those in line were also 500 hour guys/girls who wanted to talk to UAL.
