Default Is CAL hiring?

Please bring me up to speed.

It's my understanding that all of the UAL furloughees have been offered jobs at CAL and retain full recall rights to be exercised when they see fit. I would guess that many are waiting to see what the future contract and SLI hold before coming back.

Additionally, I have heard rumors of TK spooling up this winter. Yet we are offering leaves of absence, so that seems counterintuitive.

With retirements starting in 3 months and the continuing staffing problems on the CAL side clearly things have got to move fairly soon.

Believe it or not, I have a buddy currently flying in China who wants to work here. I'd like to be able to give him some decent intell and not just BS. Is there a new UCAL hiring office? Lemme guess....Houston? Is there an application form or is it online? Is there any chance in hell that a letter of rec from a sUAL type would do any good, or is it the kiss of death? From what I have witnesses so far, pretty much any and all input from the UA side has been tossed in the crapper.

Whazzup?

Just posted this elsewhere and maybe somebody who is more in tune with the numbers can update the 350 figure. I don't see any UAL side hiring anytime soon. They're already into leaves for winter so thats never a good sign. The game plan seems to be park the old UAL gear as it finally gives out and add some 900ER's. The TK spool rumor has been ongoing for years. Believe it when I see it. Maybe and stress maybe when retirements really start to bite the UAL side might have that phantom bid but they'll stretch it to the very last minute.

An official email stated roughly 350 had taken the job of the 1437 furloughed leaving it about a 24% acceptance rate. Another deadline for Nov and Dec classes closed Monday and there were more takers but by my math the acceptance rate only went up to like 27% if the rumor numbers are accurate. Long and short of it is they've gone through the list and are rumored to have come up short for the Nov and Dec classes so it looks like pools are getting their shot.

By all accounts folks are not inspired by the CAL work rules nor are they voicing confidence a decent TA will be had over the next few months. It appears the vast majority of those taking the new hire offer on the CAL side are doing because they have to or the CAL adventure is better than what they are currently doing. If there were details of the new AIP which showed a good contract possibly up for vote its likely the acceptance rate would be higher but not that high. The common opinion seems to be if you've got something decent avoid UCH until this merger mess blows over as there is plenty of time to bypass. Poolies and new hires can expect to enjoy a roller coaster ride at the bottom of the list, but hey what else is new?

I believe TK is spooling up for training, because CAL's is gonna be swamped with all the hiring they need to do (while UAL shrinks...)

There is a "new" UCAL hiring office, and yes at IAH.

They are trying to get things figured out as far as application. Don't know if their keeping AirlineApps with a few tweeks, or something new.

They have offered positions to furloughed UAL, and now are working on getting people that interviewed and offered class in '08 (UAL and CAL side), but never made it because of the hiring "freeze".

I have told the recruitment manager of a friend that wants to work "here", and was told to remind him in OCT., because that's when he sees hiring off the street. (I am furloughed UAL), so I don't think that;s the kiss of death?

Does anyone know if CAL will be using AirlineApps.com for off the street hiring?

A total of 8 recruiters plus this little detail in the job fair description...

"Bring plenty of resumes! All recruiting companies are accepting resumes unless otherwise noted in the list to the right."

I guess it would be a safe assumption to say yes, they will be.
