The same reason that I didn't apply to CAL back in the 90's. Who in their right mind would have?

The only way you will know the results of those decisions is when you retire. But at the current moment. 95 hire at ual would be a jr to mid seniority fo on the bus or 75/76. 95 hire at cal would be enjoying your tenth year as CA on the 75/76...

Exactamundly.......

I am more than a bit sick and tired of reading LCAL guys posts making the insinuation that we were simply too stupid to have applied at CAL vs UAL. When I got hired at UAL, CAl was still in very bad shape and a wild card at best. It really was a no brianer back then.

But at the current moment. 95 hire at ual would be a jr to mid seniority fo on the bus or 75/76. 95 hire at cal would be enjoying your tenth year as CA on the 75/76...
And of course you also know that all of those mid seniority 95 hires and 96 hires and a large portion of 97 hires held or were able to hold the captains seat for two to four years before you know what happened with our 737 fleet.

There are still many 95 and some early 96 hires hanging on to the left seat BTW.

Total BS. A 95 hire at UAL has likely been a Captain for 14 years. I just flew with one who made Captain in 99 on the 737 and has been on the Airbus for 10 years as a Captain. Also, there are probably no 95 hires who are Airbus FOs unless they are #1.

Also many 95 hires have also been 747-400 or 777 FO's for about 15 years in most domiciles.

And a CAL 95 hire (I didn't think there were any) would not have been a 757 Captain in 2003. That's what you said, they would have been a 757 Captain for 10 years now.

I have 3 good friends at CAL. All hired in the 90s. All still FOs.

Please get your facts straight.

If they are FO's it is by choice, not that they can't hold CA.

OK, lemme be precise for you, 3 years 7 months as 73 CA and 6 years 5 months as 75/76 CA.

Are you really arguing that your career would have not been better (earnings, seat, and seniority QOL) as a 90's hire at cal? If that is what you are saying, then I want what your drinking. This is all mental stroking, but the facts remain 06 and 05 hires are 73 and 756 Ca's respectively at cal. That could change slightly in the SLI, but no windfalls dictate that you cannot punish a person for the company they chose, or where they are at that company. Your relative seniority will have the most effect on your position, along with small adjustments of seats, longevity, and career expectations... If you don't expect reality, you will be sadly disappointed when it is published...

Oh, and those CA's are 'hanging on' as in a previous post.

I am a Jan 2, 1996 hire at UAL. I have been an Airbus Capt since July 2004. I was a guppy Capt back when I had less then 4 years. I have only been a narrow body FO 3 out my 17 years here. My point....it is not the date of hire of people holding seats at each sub-airline that matters, it is the amount and category of each seat that the sub brings to the dance.

777 FO's. Even with our "stellar" new contract, your three 777 FO friends still wont bid a CA seat. Not worth it. If anything, they are waiting until they can hold a line as a 777 CA.

All one needs to do is add a little "wind", sprinkle in a few "C-Gulls" in the background for effect, and VOILA!

"Pi$$ing in the WIND boys"

Another truly pathetic waste of a thread
