Exactly! This whole wide-body focused argument by some LUAL pilots is ignoring this basic fact. What difference does it make if you're flying a 747 or a Cessna 172 if the 172 pays more than the 747! Look at the regionals that fly 70 seat airplanes for essentially the same as other pilots get paid to fly a 50 seater. Category of airplane is pretty meaningless without the big picture of compensation.
Of course, according to the UAL MEC "prestige" of flying a 747 should count for something. The regionals have SJS, while these guys apparently have BJS.

OTOH, there is significant precedence that values widebody International flying and the substantial high paying/desirable seats required to man that operation. With the recent change (to respect and value longevity- I didn't write it, but it is absolutely in there) in ALPA merger policy, there is value in longevity. Fact is, ALPA can't have another Nic award. Bias who? Guess that will be seen.

It is almost humorous to hear Jim Brucia in the video. I look forward to United's quoting his dissenting opinion in the US Air America West merger stating that US Air furloughees should have been given longevity credit. That was the impetus for amending the ALPA policy. How do you counter that? Apparently by ignoring the ALPA merger policy in your presentation.

EXACTLY!
The merger policy was changed since ALPA would cease to exist if they lost another major.
When they want to know how the CAL guys feel about longevity for furloughees, they can just show the written opinion of the CAL guy from the USair debacle (as mentioned earlier).
On another note....type of equipment DOES carry some weight in SLI discussions. It has proven to be true in the past. UAL's possession of WAY more large widebody airframes will help their case regardless of pay scale.

What you also can't see in that picture is a bunch of orange MX deferral stickers all over the cockpit, and two super duper senior UAL guys who haven't moved in 12 years.
They're talking to a CAL 05 hire on his way home from upgrade, and going " What do you hear about a merger ?" "We really want your management so we can stay in business"
(those are actual quotes that I heard with my own ears years before the merger announcement btw)
