I'm guessing studying 737 would only guarantee I'd get a Airbus.

E3, end of the fiscal year kind of screws with terminal leave with the whole use or lose issue at the end of sept.

Be interesting to see how things go after the SLI comes out.

Also wondering if after the SLI, does that mean we could get assigned to any of the UAL bases as well? I understood that they were putting people in the old CAL bases like EWR and HOU.

I thought I was told post SLI, any of the combined bases were possible.

That is correct.

But realistically a new hire can expect to be assigned to a base where unfilled vacancies exist as a result of the most recent equipment bid(s). FWIW, at sCAL and sUAL the current unfilled vacancies are in NY (EWR or JFK) and IAH for both divisions. Once the SLI is complete there is no reason to expect that to change since it is the same on both "sides" as every pre-SLI pilot that wants NY or IAH is already there. Thus, IAH or NY is the most realistic expectation for a new hire with perhaps a few other bases sprinkled here and there.

That said, there's no contractual equipment bid freeze that prohibits a base change on the same equipment when one can hold it (i.e. a "lateral" bid). Example: a new-hire is awarded 737 IAH but can subsequently be awarded SFO or ORD three months later during a vacancy bid if they can hold it.

Should be any base..... First couple system bids after SLI should be interesting. Time will tell.

Yes....fiscal year caught me....didn't realize until I called finance to see how much I would really have .

I think everyone is just hunkered down and waiting for the SLI storm to end....looking forward to it though! Seems like both sides have some good guys and am looking forward to learning a bit from all!

Did see your NATO comment. Spent a lot of time at GK while in the Guard. Those will be the times I'll miss. I'm looking forward to this 2nd career. I know I have a lot to learn about 121 ops.

Currently in new hire training at Houston. We were told Basic Indoc could be in Denver starting 1 Oct. Training after that will depend on what aircraft you get.
