In the packet they send you before the interview, it says you have to have a current first class medical issued within the last six months. If I'm under 40 and I've had it under a year it is still valid. Do I have to go get another medical before the interview if I am outside of 6 months even tho my first class is still valid?

You absolutely need a new medical issued within the last 6 months. You don't want something like that being the reason you don't get the job offer.

Spend the $100, get the new medical. You'll be slightly bummed, I would think, if they show you the door just for that.

It is valid for a Class 2 after 6 months. For the new rules and the Type rating, it needs to be within 6 months for 1st class.

Bro! First off, congrats. Second, take a deep breath and focus. I would update everything that you can update right away. If the instructions tell you to bring your records (passport, atp cert, driv lic, etc..), I would bring those along with three photo copies of each in addition - don't make the HR rep do the copies themselves. If they tell you to bring a completed copy of the application, don't forget to bring three blank copies. Chances are they wanted something filled out differently, and you want to be prepared for that.

You want come off as a calculated professional prepared for anything. Not a FAR lawyer that's going to tell them what page to reference. Remember, it's their airline, you want to join it, and they want a team player.

JB77,

Congrats and good luck. Get a fresh medical! Why tempt fate? An hour of your time and $1xx bucks..........

Potential ROI....priceless!

Again, good luck!

You are absolutely correct about the valid time period of the FAA First Class Medical. And that is totally irrelevant in this case.
When I interviewed at UA, they instructed us not to count ANY PIC time from before completing flight training, including solo time. ***?? Utterly asinine, stupid, illogical etc. I mean, if I can't count solo time as PIC, then who was the PIC?? To this day, I can't understand why they did that, but they did. As was said earlier, they make the rules; all of them. Show them that you can follow their rules, all of them.
