CAL MC Last Minute Filing
#53
This kind of backs up my point. This is on ccs and available to s-UAL pilots only...
Company Offered Leaves of Absence (COLA - ANP) October – November - December
We are accepting requests for October, November and December COLA for the following categories: 400 – All Bases; 777 – DCA, ORD, LAX, SFO, SEA; 767 – JFK, DCA, ORD, DEN, LAX, SFO, SEA; 320 – All Bases. Leaves will be limited and not all categories will have availability in all months. Thanksgiving holiday leaves will be very limited. Additionally, only full month leaves will be approved for the month of December.
Leaves will be granted for up to three months in seniority order by category. Leaves longer than 3 months will be considered on an individual basis, please contact your domicile for information.
The October flying month begins on September 29th and ends on October 29th. For pilots with inbound trips in the leave month, the leave will begin on the first day after the scheduled trip ends. Submit your request for COLA using DIS*41971. The deadlines for submitting a request is Noon (Central Time) Monday September 9, 2013.
We will continue to offer partial month leaves. However, if requesting less than a full month leave, the maximum number of blocks the leave can be split into is two and each block must contain a minimum of seven days. Example - If requesting a 14 day leave, the leave can contain one block of fourteen days, or two blocks of days with each block containing seven days. This restriction has been implemented to avoid granting weekend-only leaves to those who otherwise could not hold weekends off.
Future Awards or Training
COLA will not be awarded for the month(s) when qualification or re-qualification training is scheduled or may be scheduled. COLA will not be awarded for 2 month(s) following completion of training at a training center. COLA may be awarded for the month(s) preceding the training. A previously awarded recurrent training event will not be cancelled for any COLA request or award. COLA may be scheduled or re-scheduled around a previously scheduled recurrent training event. Recurrent training will not be awarded that will conflict with a previously awarded COLA period.
The company will continue to provide Medical/Dental/Vision benefits at active rates.
If you request and are awarded ANP that conflicts with a vacation (that has already been assigned) that vacation will be cancelled. The entire vacation period will be replaced with COLA. If you are awarded a vacation after COLA has been awarded, that vacation will replace the COLA on a day for day basis. If done in a timely manner prior to PBS awards, you may request the vacation be replaced with COLA by sending an email to . Pilots on a leave of absence for a full Bid Period shall have his vacation accrual reduced by one-twelfth (1/12) for such full Bid Period.
These Leaves are unpaid. Please contact the pay desk at if you have questions about your pay or the timing of your paychecks.

Didn't L-CAL have reduced hour lines to help prevent furloughs? When did those stop?
You can't look at the current staffing and say the same staffing state existed in May of 2010. The S-UA side has been hit very hard with hour reductions and aircraft parking.
How about we let the list come out and abide by the arbiters decision based on the facts and arguments presented to them.
Yup.
Because if UAL is only known for ONE THING....it's over staffing and a reluctance to furlough "excess" pilots.
[/QUOTE
We're known for really crappy coffee now!

This is now and not 2010. The number of excess pilots has been exacerbated on the UA side going into the winter schedule due to the rapid parking of the 757's and reduction in hours on the S-UA side. The decision of the Arb's of when the MD for the snapshot is taken will be the determining factor for how much slack was in the system. For the summer they had canceled all LOA's and forced pilots back. They have done this several times since 2010.

In 2010 the F/O staffing at UAL was over 400 pilots greater when compared to the CAL side (corrected for fleet size and crews per aircraft)
This may or may not have anything to do with the results that come out tomorrow, we will see.

The 757 pulldown has nothing to do with the -400, 777 and A320 staffing levels which are targeted by this COLA.

S-UA has always had more reserves as we did not have the forced junior manning, jetway assignments and open time flyers that you had on the S-CAL side. The different contracts and work rules required higher reserve staffing on the S-UA side.
Again we can both argue about this til we are blue in the face and that won't change the outcome. I hope it is tomorrow and I hope we can move onward as a single pilot group.
I wish you the best and look forward to making new friends on the L-CAL side.
