Default Fun little crew desk game...

So the newest little game the crew desk is playing is;

I'm on a short call 0700-2200. This is short call number 3 for the month, the first one you get add pay for. At 2158 the crew desk calls me to release me from duty and place me on a field standby for the following day.

Wow they had the decency to release me 2 minutes before my official duty period was over BUT EVEN BETTER now they claim that they don't have to pay me add pay because the RSC (reserve short call) period did not go unused, fuzzy logic, but it's what they are going with. Somehow the FSB doesn't count either because of the way it was assigned, I haven't quite figured that one out yet.

ALPA knows about it and is working on a grievance. Working for this company sometimes resembles a used car dealer and ambulance chasing, two bit lawyer convention all mixed into one big happy family.

Truly unbelievable what UAL management is doing these days. I hope you will share the results of the grievance whenever it is finally resolved. I'd love to here whether a neutral buys into such malarkey.

Converted to short call 8 times this month. Not used 6 of them, very efficient.
Additional 2 hours for home study equates to an additional $1k for their monthly abuse of short call usage.

I guess I'll be re-reading the contract on rsv on the crossing tonight...back in the reserve saddle next week.

You won't find it in there. This is an interpretation of "used" and "unused" by management. But of course it's always good to have a solid knowledge base when the crew desk calls as about half the time they are trying to pull a fast one.

Do you have to answer the phone prior to your duty day starting? If they call 2 mins prior and you answer... Seems that you are not playing the same game they are.

They called him at the very end of his duty day.

He was off at 22:00, and they called at 21:58.

Yes, you have to answer when they call you on Short Call.

I don't answer it. I let go to VM and then call back. Never had an issue.
