So the newest little game the crew desk is playing is;
I'm on a short call 0700-2200. This is short call number 3 for the month, the first one you get add pay for. At 2158 the crew desk calls me to release me from duty and place me on a field standby for the following day.
Wow they had the decency to release me 2 minutes before my official duty period was over BUT EVEN BETTER now they claim that they don't have to pay me add pay because the RSC (reserve short call) period did not go unused, fuzzy logic, but it's what they are going with. Somehow the FSB doesn't count either because of the way it was assigned, I haven't quite figured that one out yet.
ALPA knows about it and is working on a grievance. Working for this company sometimes resembles a used car dealer and ambulance chasing, two bit lawyer convention all mixed into one big happy family.

Sled it's pretty clear cut but apparently they have been pulling this on multiple guys. ALPA was well aware of it and have been documenting it. To get anything done now days you have to go to court apparently.

Me neither. Everything goes to voice mail, I listen, if questionable I check legality then I call them back. there is no other way to operate with these liars and thieves called the crew desk.

Reserve suxs no two ways about it. I don't know if I'm going to be able to wait for my bump letter or if I'm going to take a narrow body F/O bid here pretty quick. The crew desk is starting to really pizz me off on a regular basis.

I highly recommend the above, especially when they wake you up. Let it ring and call back or check in online after you have a minute to figure it out. However, most of them are just doing their job, cut them some slack and call them on any BS. Have the contract section ready when you do and they will back down every time.

Hey Hoss...check out page 33 of the UPA. 3-C-1-b seems to give them the right to assign a fs WITHOUT AN INTERVENING OFF-DUTY PERIOD to get out of paying you. IOW, since you were given an off duty period, it should be paid. The fs should also be paid as long as you are not assigned a trip, since it is your 4th sc AND/OR fs. It is written well, they just ain't following it. Big surprise.

I usually submit a pay claim thru CCS since you will not see it reflected in your pay register until around the 10th on the following month. I do this just so there is a paper trail. They are suppose to handle it without the pay claim, but I do it anyways.
There is still a difference between the sCAL and sUAL rules with regards to this add pay. CAL is still using "A" and "B" reserves which falls under their contract '02, Section 25, Part 11, A-4. In this area the CAL contract is actually better in my opinion because you are compensated based on being converted alone, regardless of whether you are used.
With regards to the new UPA rules on "unused" short calls see the UPA_NextSteps-update7, pages 5-6.
In the next contract we need to go back to getting add pay for being converted alone, whether we are used or not. There should be no freebies (the first 2 currently) and they should be capped to a maximum number of conversions per month (like 4).

Under our old UA contract we were limited to 4 with provisions for up to 7 but we got no pay for them. I like your idea very much.

A little new guy help, please. I am trying to find the long to short call conversion language in the new contract. Just read through 20-K and must have missed it with all the color coded highlights from the CALALPA version.
FWIW, the Continental '02 contract only gives one hour to your MPG vice add pay for long to short call conversions after two per month, but it doesn't matter if you are used or not. So if you routinely fly over your MPG it gives you nothing. Add pay for all conversions would be a huge improvement for the next contract.
