Sorry I made that sound like it was results from a displacement. Not what my intentions were. Just wanted to confirm that the results of this vacancy are what guys in March and April classes will bid on, which you did answer that. Thank you!

Question as I'm still trying to understand how this all works. I noticed there were no EWR 320 FOs on this bid, but there were 30 IAH and 30 DCA 320 FO positions. If these were hypothetically all filled by current EWR 320 FOs on property, does that mean they would backfill 60 320 EWR FO positions to new hires?

You have to look at the MIN/MAX. Company MUST backfill to the MIN number and MAY backfill anywhere in between the MIN and the MAX. anything below the MIN not filled by pilots on property will be given to new hires.

Won't be the first time. A few years ago a LCAL 777 captain was greeted by 3 smiling probationary FOs for his long flight to wherever. His "input" to the company led to a minor investigation into the issue of why more senior pilots weren't upgrading into heavier equipment. They didn't like the answer--lousy workrules, particularly on reserve (obvious to line pilots, not to the negotiating committee or the company). While they fumbled with plans to fix it (why? the company type rated them. Aren't they fully qualified?) the industry tanked again, they furloughed 200, and that solved the problem.

Sorry for the rookie question- where do we access official information on the vacancy bid? (Openings, timeline, etc.)

Not the whole story .... the company, and only the company, decides what new hires will be offered ... they can only offer from vacancies that are unfilled ... just because there are unfilled vacancies through out the system doesn't mean they will all be offered to new hires. So the unfilled vacancies will give you the "pool", new hires won't know what will be available until told by the company.
