Job fair or not...
I never was able to do a job fair..big family, kids, etc...but had M&G with Chief a year ago, several internal recs including United Check airman..got email/Hogan just b4 Christmas, interviewed a month later, Job offer last week..April class most likely. I didn't do any formal interview prep..just studied the gouge, knew my TMAAT stories.
If you speak well, are likeable, and aren't full of crap..you'll do well in interview. I did use FTI Denver..I'd recommend it, but pricey/worth it.

well, I think I want to attend the conference in dallas also. Do we need to bring anything other than the resume, such as flight records and all that good stuff?
To weigh in on the mil vs civ debate, I've got heavy time and single seat time still no call with close to 3000 hrs so I say it's a crap shoot.

Same boat except all single seat time and just short of 3000, starting indoc next month. I attended 2 united job fairs and waited about 13 months for the call to interview. I think the job fairs helped.

Thinking about the OBAP in April But it is hard to commit when no Majors have committed to it.
FAPA has one the day before at the same location but no Majors signed up.
I learned about the WIA today. It seems like you can't learn about available time slots unless you sign up though.

You do not have to attend a job fair in order to get hired at United. It does help your chances though to attend one. When we hosted our job fair in SFO the United recruiter told me that if a candidate was a "rock star" they would be called in for an interview. United wanted to grab the best candidates possible before another airline had the chance.
My advice for those attending the Women In Aviation conference is the following:
Show up prepared. This was the biggest gripe from the recruiters. People are not showing up prepared to tell their story. You spend hours and hours preparing for a checkride you need to spend hours and hours preparing for your one on one with the recruiter. Know things about yourself, why United, why should they hire you (as a person and a pilot), show who you are and how it matches the company culture at United.
Dress like you are going to an interview. Do not wear business casual or wear your pilot uniform.
Make sure your resume looks sharp and is printed on resume paper, not copier paper. Check to make sure you are handing the United recruiter your United resume and not your Delta resume. (If you are going to meet with Delta it must say "Delta Air Lines", 3 words, not Delta Airlines. Your resume will go in a different pilot if spelled with two words).
The most important thing to bring to the conference is a positive attitude. The days are going to be long and grueling. I am expecting over 5K attendees this year. The recruiters know you can fly an airplane. Prove to them why you belong at their company.

Dang what a PITA it is to get a good job with a major nowadays. Multiple threads with tens of thousands of posts. The applications take hours and need the precision of a surgeon. Have to spend time off going to job fairs sponsored by different factions of our society. At said job fair you are too late to get in line even if you arrive at 0400, Delta likes "Air Lines" while United likes "Airlines." Spend years without PIC turbine and finally getting it in my forties and now it's not necessary anymore.
