I agree. The unplanned retaining of all lUAL 763's was to put a proper airplane on some of the longer Europe routes flown by lCAL 757's. 117 made fuel stops on the way back too painful/illegal. What will the 757's do? Not sure, but probably less productive, like you said.
Hopefully they will put the 757's back on Hawaii flights or transcons where they belong vs 73's.
I hope there is growth. 900 pilots this year doesn't make any sense if there isn't.

Factor in ownership costs to everything else and a 767 probably is pretty close to cost per seat mile, with lower trip costs, as the 787 is for east coast to Europe flights. So it helps that ROI the company is striving for.

I'm wondering if there's some plausible explanation why there's 5 less filled positions on the IAH 320 FO BES versus yesterday's snapshot. I know guys must have pulled their bids, but just wondering why you would put in for it then change your mind.

One theory: if you are a junior 737 FO in IAH and placed the bid because you think you might get bumped off the 737 in IAH, why not wait for an actual bump and then go to the 320 (or something else) without a freeze?

1 EWR 320 FO, and
3 IAH 737 FOs pulled their bids.
If I were an IAH 737 FO, I wouldn't bid IAH 320 FO. I'd rather take the bump to IAH 320 FO - like you said, no freeze. The only reason I can think of doing that is if you're very junior IAH 737 FO and want a bit more seniority in your base/equipment.

Not to mention CCS. The plan long ago was to use the 320 for longer flights due to wanting to limit the number of cycles on the 320, along with better cargo carrying capacity than the 737. I'm actually surprised it's taken this long to get more 320s into IAH.
1 DEN 320 FO,
1 EWR 320 FO, and
3 IAH 737 FOs pulled their bids.

I'm senior enough as an IAH737 fo that there's no chance of me getting bumped. Why would a guy want to avoid an equipment freeze? The only thing it would really prevent you from doing is bidding back to the 737 as far as I understand it. If you bid anything bigger (757/767/76T 777, 787, 747), you aren't subject to a freeze. I guess if you're a commuter, you get six months of positive space travel to/from work if you're displaced (I think), but I can't see too much advantage to holding out for the displacement if IAH320 Fo is a better deal for you. I'm jus trying to understand the logic to make sure I'm not missing something....

I have a percentage bid in for several bases so I usually come and go off the snapshots as they change. You would have to look and see if the 5 "missing" pilots changed percentage over the last snapshot or if they were awarded another fleet or base on the next snapshot.

When bumped you can bid anything in the system you can hold. Don't like the new BES or something better is available? No freeze.
