If you want to make more money, Senior Man and sit at home. Wait for the company to call you at 200%. Everyone in EWR got that... Other bases not so much. Nothing more disappointing than seeing 20 pages of open time pick up requests.
The caveat to this is that you have to be a lineholder. While on reserve you can only aggressively pick up trips in domicile.

This is basically utter bullcrap. I'm a mid-level line holder in EWR. I always put alerts in for open time on all the days I work plus the days I want to work. Most days are absolutely quiet. Many days in this off-season there is nothing open worth trading into, mostly LGA 0500 reports. Don't listen to someone who's been here 3 months.

I had three months last summer over 150 hours... You're just not good at hustling. EWR is a trove of open time.

You obviously don't have your alerts set right! Again, the days I've been on call, and since I've been online there has always been a trip I could pick up if I wanted, dude! EWR or LGA, there has always been a trip! That's my experience so it's not utter bullcrap...You clearly just don't know how to work the system.

I put in open time alerts for 2, 3, and 4 day trips. Trips don't normally open up til the day before save a couple really bad trips sitting there.

If you live locally that's awesome. I wish I could do that. I'm not senior enough to get SRM. 200+ FOs ahead of me in BES.

So assuming I get a choice between a 737 and a 756 to EWR, which one is most likely to get me to Dulles the quickest? I know its like investments and past performance doesn't really mean much, but just wondering what the best guesses are.

Judging solely by the latest junior man table.
The most junior DCA 737 guy is 12447.
The most junior DCA 756 guy is 12103.

I'd say the 737 but it wouldn't take you that long for the 756 either. A good friend of mine just got off probation last month and he's on the 756 in DCA. He absolutely LOVES it. He's still on reserve btw. Good luck getting what you want. ...And even better luck figuring out exactly what that is.

Cheers and welcome to United.
