Yeah. I get a little wound up. Especially when I start thinking about things like this..
https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-...enate-bill/391
Rand Paul and his 29 co-sponsors (all Republican of course) trying to crush unions. It went nowhere in this Congress with a presidential veto being assured. Time will tell if he brings it up again next Congress. No veto threat this time. Maybe a filibuster? We are screwed. And this is just one example. It's been the greatest eight years of my career. Take a look at your contract and paycheck...Let's see how they look in 4 years. Politics matter. Good luck.

Personally I think you'd have to be stupid to try and do this job without a union.

But on the next major downturn our "peer set target" will be the stupidest group out there. Thanks to legislation like this, they'll be much "stupider" than before.
In theory, how many LUAL or LCAL pilots would have happily quit paying dues the day after the ISL was announced? Management only has to blow up the union once to reap benefits for years and years, if not permanently. Once this legislation is passed the doomsday clock is ticking. The $$$ behind legislation like this has been waiting decades for the planets to align. At this point they are happy to light the fuse and let nature take its course.
And they are not in short supply.

That's correct. Now take out the part about paying the service fee.....
Yup.

What we do know is the rust belt/blue collar workers showed up in big numbers to vote for the president elect. I suspect he would not be stupid enough to shoot himself in the foot and turn his back, at least in this term, against those who put him in the White House. He campaigned on American protectionism, and I'm not sure how union busting fits into that narrative.
What I do know is I am thankful for our union and am aware of the sacrifices our brethren went through the last few decades. Be safe, fly the contract, and enjoy the good ride while it lasts.
Happy thanksgiving.

Huh? There were several vacancies this bid (and the last several), which is more than the last several years. You not being senior enough to hold it doesn't equate to DEN not growing or being profitable.
I can't hold 777 CA, and it's growing and profitable....***?!
