Can't change it up and require a different type rating, can they? Gotta keep SWA happy and their training costs low.

For what? 90% chance the recall light will come broken already. You'll have to hit it 10 times as is.

WHY IS THAT EVEN THERE?????

The HUD. The HUD is a sneeze guard.

At least that's what it looks like over half the time I lower it in Sparky (have you gross bastiges ever heard of a Kleenex, a handkerchief, or your elbow?). Seriously nasty sometimes.

As for the 6-pack, who knows. Kinda like tits on a bull or handcrank on the front of a model T that has an electric starter......totally worthless.

For those of you not in the loop for Council 34 E-mails:

Council 34 - 747 Update
January 16, 2017

Ladies and Gentlemen of Council 34,

Unfortunately, the 747 fleet is scheduled to be parked by the end of October 2017. We are reluctant to offer any bidding advice since management’s plans change so frequently. However, anyone on the 747 considering bidding the 777 or 787 in the current vacancy (17-04V) or future vacancies, should read the following sections of the UPA:

8-D-2 Bidding Freeze

8-D-2-a When a Pilot is awarded an assignment through vacancy bidding and such award does not move him from a lower-numbered band to a higher-numbered band in accordance with Section 8-D-1-d, he may be ineligible to be awarded any other vacancy for twenty-four (24) months. However, a Pilot shall be eligible to be awarded a vacancy for a “lateral” award (i.e., change in Base only; present Equipment and Status remain the same) without incurring an additional bidding freeze.

8-E Displacement Bulletins, Bidding and Awards

8-E-7-b When the Company desires to completely phase-out a Category (i.e., the
Equipment type is no longer flying in that Base), the provisions of Section 8-E shall apply except that a volunteer for displacement under Section 8-E-7-a may exercise his displacement rights using his seniority.

8-H-3 Closing a Base

8-E above shall be utilized. 8-H-3-a-(2) A Pilot who bids and is awarded a vacancy out of the affected Base during the period commencing with the announced Base closing and ending with the Base closing effective date, shall be entitled to a paid move pursuant to Section 10 and shall not be subject to any freeze described in Section 8-D.

8-H-3-a-(3) In lieu of the transportation benefits set forth in Section 10, an affected Pilot shall be allowed NRPS transportation between his former Base and his new Base until such time that he moves his residence to the new location not to exceed one (1) year after the effective date of the Base closing. In addition, if such Pilot has not moved his residence to the new location within one (1) year, he shall be allowed the highest priority NRSA transportation until he moves, not to exceed an additional one (1) year

In summary, if you bid from the 747 to the 777 or 787, you will incur a “hard freeze” since the 747, 777, and 787 are all in the same pay band. This means that for 24 months from the start of your freeze you will be ineligible to bid any position except CAP on your new respective equipment. For example, if you bid from 747 F/O to 777 F/O you are only eligible to bid 777 CAP for the duration of the freeze. This is a change from the old L-UA contract that allowed an upgrade to any CAP position.

If you wait to be displaced, UPA section 8-H-3 will apply, providing you displacement rights using your own seniority number, a paid move, commuter passes, and NO freeze. Since the base closure was already announced, if you are awarded a vacancy instead of waiting for a displacement, you are still eligible for a paid move and commuter passes under 8-H-3-a-(2) and 8-H-3-a-(3). In closing, we highly recommend that 747 pilots be mindful of the mechanics of the freeze provision in 8-D-2-a while making the decision to bid a vacancy or wait for a bump.

So when the 747 guys get displaced they can go anywhere in the system their seniority can hold, right?

So if a 747 FO decides to take a Cap spot somewhere, what happens to the junior Cap there? Does he get bumped out or does the company create an overage in manning?

If the junior Cap does indeed get bumped off, can he go back to being an FO keeping Cap pay since he was bumped?

Just trying to wrap my head around how this will / could play out.

And yes, I know somewhere in the contract it explains everything. However a little bit of plain English really goes a long way in gaining an initial understanding before all the legal voodoo...

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to throw out a simple explanation.
