No one (outside of HR) truly knows, best guesses follow:
straight civilians: 7,500+ turbine, 3,000+ Multi-turbine PIC (corporate background guys will vary dramatically)
heavy mil: 3,500+ turbine, 2,500+ PIC
fighter mil: 1,500+ PIC (this category varies dramatically it seems based off of specific MWS)
trainer mil: somewhere in between heavy and fighter depending on MWS stink
Yes, these are competitive times.

Announced today, by the company, that the application for First Officers will be taken down on March 26th. It said more info later on about when it will be back up. This could be a move to a new portal like airlineapps or pilotcredentials. But if you want to get your app in, do it soon. They like to see the track record of trying each calendar year.

Spinning your wheels trying to figure this stuff out. UPS doesn't even know how many they want to hire and they've badly missed their published number every year. The internal numbers may be 300 today, 162 tomorrow, then 0 the following day, and quickly circling back to 300. We witnessed a scenario close to that last year.
