Tru dat, don't care how long they get, a 73 cockpit is still the same size as it was on the -100 and they called it the Baby Boeing for a reason.. Can't wait for the day I don't need to ask permission to take a leak. Go Brown!

Everything seems so short staffed...and from what I understand no first year pilots touch open time or JA flying.

I talked with one who raided their 401k to make year one work
I just accepted a class date and that’s what I’m going to have to do. I bought a house 18 months ago and depleted my cash reserves to make the down payment. Luckily I have the 401k to rely on if (when) the first year pay breaks me. I don’t want to but I’m hoping long term this the career pays off.

I’ll never understand why so many pilots are afraid of night flying. Less traffic. Less radio chatter. You get to where you’re going and if you’re tired you take a nap, wake up at noon and go get lunch, walk around and go back to the hotel for a few hour nap before you fly again. I’ve been doing it for 11 years and don’t feel like it’s aged me in anyway. I sleep when I’m tired. Haven’t the Spanish been day sleeping for hundred of years (siesta)?

it isn’t fear. It’s basic biology. Your body is programmed to sleep at night. Occasional interruptions may not be a big deal. I’m not throwing shade in ANY way at ups, Fedex etc. I envy many parts of your contracts. But wocl flying as a way of life has its challenges. That’s all.

Lots of credit card companies will give no interest cards for 12 or more months. I got one with no interest for 18 months to keep on hand for emergencies. I’d recommend that to at least minimize raiding your retirement, then pick up a couple JAs once you get off probation and pay it off.

How many pax airline lines do this, for example:

- Start at 1am and end at 12pm, consistently? And non international?

- How many pax airlines work you from 8am to 1pm, put you into rest, then start you again at 2am, for example?

It simply doesn’t happen, at least not with any sort of frequency, unlike UPS schedules, which is fairly common. Flying from 9-10pm to 5-6am Monday through Friday is a cake walk (some may disagree), completely doable, but the flip flopping of the clock going on at UPS is beyond unsafe.

Happens a lot where I work. 4-leg/12 hour days with a 10 hour overnight is a beatdown.

Pretty much comes down to what your capable or more acclimated for flying wise. Some enjoy long haul flying night, day, both, dozing for dollars at half time going somewhere interesting, nice hotels, authentic cultural experiences, cuisine, etc. Others enjoy day flying, multiple legs, stateside known destinations, hotels, eateries, watering holes, etc. - variations to both of course. Uniforms 24/7, Uniforms til cruise/descent, lav access, FA interactions, home day after day, mid-length trips, too long trips, tight flight decks, open space, bunks, actual bunk rooms, your galley, fat Capt lav, the list goes on and on. Everything adds up to what your priorities are and only you know what they are. Others may perceive you’re stuck in a guppy, but your fat dumb and happy who cares. Some look at long haul or night flying as the devil, but you’re a pig in mud who cares. All I know for myself is I enjoy showing up to work to see where the Queen will take me casually and change isn’t an issue that is totally me. You do you and enjoy your choice in the industry and let no one steer you away if it makes your day!

Easy Peasy - what floats your boat? There is no excuse now, the airlines are your oyster and it’s basically up to you. Never an easier time. Never.

Happens a lot where I work? Huh? Then you mention long day flying days… Sure… You try working 4-5 days with one day starting at 9pm, ending at 7am, next day 2am to 11am, then 5am to 2pm. No circadian rhythm whatsoever.
