I second Kasse’s advice above but if you must for whatever reason:
What I recommend (to people I know) to do before class:
Hope this helps. Good luck!
- get a copy of limitations and memory items and learn cold
- get a copy of master question bank and start working on it
What I recommend (to people I know) to do before class:
- sign up to all major airline and hotel chain awards memberships
- consider getting a high end CC, something like chase sapphire or Amex plat
- apply pay is handy overseas
- apple card good too - can instantly get new card number if you have fraud issue.
- Charles Schwab checking account = no intl ATM fees.
- get a good password app - you’ll get a ton of logins from UPS
- have 401K info ready to go for rollover
- consider how to fully fund 401K during year 1
- square up finances - it’s 13 months of tiny paychecks.
- Is your passport close to expiring? Ideally you’ll want to show up with a newer PP especially if on an international fleet.
- if going intl, consider intl cell phone and data options. T-Mobile is popular. Pokefi an option too.
- Headset: if you’re a commuter you’ll probably want something like the Bose QC with uflymike option so you can use the headset during commute.
- intl? Get a currency wallet or two. Baglini makes a good one.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Headspace is good, calm too but not cheap since they are mediation apps at heart. The sleep section borrows the basic elements from meditation: deep breathing, focused body relaxation, and mind quieting. The real trick is getting the mind’s narrative/inner voice/internal dialog/thought stream to shut da F up. This takes time to learn and easiest done through a basic meditation program. Once you get that skill down it works hand in hand with the actual sleep modules. This isn’t the kind of thing you try for a week and get results, it’s more like a month or two if you stick to it. But it works.

So here's a question I know they don't let you pick what fleet or what base but from what I'm hearing is if you are older in class you "kinda" get a choice. I don't have very long before I have to take my exit (mandatory) I am that person the always wants to work extra, Its not that I'm a workaholic its just I want to put as much as I can into retirement as I can. With that said if any of you guys could let me know what fleet you would pick. My kiddos are adults so being gone more then two weeks at a time is not bad for me. I have talked to a few 74 guys and they all seem to make pretty fat paychecks without really flying a lot. I do like the one long leg and done for 24+ hrs plus upgrade time is 12+ years as apposed to getting the light twins domestic flying 2 to 4 legs a night. What's going to get the biggest paycheck. What I would like to do is one last type ride and finish my career and stay on that fleet until that day. Or do I take the light twin then after 5 to 7 years move to the left seat. I know being in the left seat before you retire makes a difference in retirement. Just trying to do what's best for me and makes the company happy. If you guys wanna PM me that's fine also. I don't have heavy time however I do have "some" international time. Thanks.

I'm on the 74, and have not flown anything else at UPS, so take my advice with a bucket of salt. That said, from talking to guys who have come over to that airplane from the others, IF you can handle longer trips, Asian prison-camp-hotels, and flying to the same ~8 places all the time, the lifestyle on the 74 seems to be a lot less wearing. I'm not sure what qualifies as "not flying a lot"...I think we fly plenty, but the overnights do tend to be longer and it's often "one and done". Not trying to start some airframe pursefight, I'm sure the others have much to recommend them, but from what I take from your post, I think you'd probably be pretty happy on the 74., You can always upgrade on something else later if you want to max out the pension.

They usually run a heavy class (747 SDF/ANC, MD11 SDF), followed by the light twins (757/767, A300) the next day. Looking at your lack of “heavy time”, you will probably get the light twin class. In that class, you should be able to pick base/plane based on your age.
Pretty sure you can work as much as you want on any fleet right now. Also, if you’re on the 757 (dependent on int’l vs domestic quals) you could pick up from other bases with restrictions if you wanted.
