Isn’t that the very definition of a hiring pool

Its a dynamic environment and Tome herself said they want to stay in a position to potentially capitalize on market changes should they occur.

Plus it wasn’t long ago UPS placed people in a pool for months and even years before getting a class. Long running pool is not a new thing here. Covid stopped it briefly.

Well, yes, but it makes no sense to keep increasing the pool when it’s far bigger than you need. IMO, it just causes folks to move on and lose faith in actually working for Brown if they have to wait that long. Then w/ first year pay what it is, it’d be hard to leave another major if you've already been there for months.

I dunno. Since I'm on property, I stopped keeping track. But it is important to remember that if you're in the pool. You're not guaranteed the next class date.

Hiring at UPS has always been a mystery. When they built the new sim center, contractor told UPS it would be much cheaper to build out the 8 sim building from the beginning, they said no, some department trying to look good for ATL. As we start construction on the expansion, the cost has gone up at least 50%. But someone looked good during initial construction. There is a famous saying around here, “UPS manages to make money hand over fist year after year despite themselves”.

Fairly certain the people who actually sat in the pool for more than 8months or so was the exception rather than the norm.

It obviously varies over time, but this is accurate for ~2 years ago. I sat for 5 months, and I was on the high side in my class, although not the longest. I think that guy was at 9. Take it for what it's worth, as ever.

How many take other jobs while in the indefinitely long pool and end up staying?
