The forum video is informative, but shouldn't be used as the sole determining factor. Read the recommendation letters in the Flight Times (difficult to locate, I know) and see their interactions on the B&G. If you weren't here during the upheaval of the 2006 negotiations you may not value a cohesive EB, but I sure do. One candidate would jeopardize the current harmony and two would not. Of those two, only Derek has the experience to begin day one where Paul leaves it. A decade in working grievance is not remotely equivalent to the other two candidates experience. He is remarkably well qualified for the job. Choose wisely.

Unfortunately I have been keeping up with the B&G. I’m convinced that sometimes “experience” impedes forward progress. On one hand you have the “doomed to repeat it” mantra, but on the other you have the fact that things are changing on both sides of the table. It’s not Jim Casey vs the Teamsters, or crew dogs rising from the ashes to save us while black town cars sit outside your house to see if you are really sick. My IPA welcome was “this company hates you,” but I knew what I was signing up for and it’s been a pretty good ride. Call me crazy, I just want someone that’s going to fight for the changes the pilot group wants, and not someone that’s walking in the room with a chip on their shoulder. We have a lot of experienced politicians in Washington and I’m not all that impressed with how they are representing me, Kevin seems to have a good head on his shoulders, I have a feeling he’s a quick study.

To those who have not made up their minds, you may ponder that all but one former EB member, that are still employed here, have endorsed Derek. As has the grievance chair.
While I agree there are times that experience impedes progress, there are times when experience is valuable. Like when your life or career prospects rely on that experience. I have no reason to believe that Kevin isn't very sharp and capable, and I appreciate him throwing his hat in the ring. I hope he stays involved, regardless of the outcome.

It's unfortunate that the company "hates you" was the message you heard. You're not the only one who received that message. I don't know when that was, but changes have been made to those welcome dinners, hopefully for the better. The company doesn't have feelings about you or anything else, but the people who run the company view you as a cost center. Never forget their goal is to minimize that cost, and they are indifferent to the suffering that their decisions may cause you. If you think things on both sides are changing, I would ask you to consider that Houston and Tony Coleman aren't going anywhere, anytime soon. Atlanta has some new and important faces, but I wouldn't expect any new tactics at the negotiations table.

Thank you for your very reasonable response - I was expecting to get attacked (still might!).

We are all shaped by our experiences, and I know that others have had significantly different experiences at UPS than I have. In my opinion, Derek will likely win due to the endorsements you reference, and I hope he lives up to his promises.
