2017 UPS Hiring
#351
As a matter of fact, I probably get to CGN more often than any other layover city.
Being on RSVA, even being junior on the fleet, opens up plenty of opportunities to fly to better places than I would be able to hold as a junior line holder.
If one was going to be senior in a new hire class, bidding the MD would offer a good perspective of the international AND domestic schedules offered at UPS. I will admit that the domestic stuff done by the MD is very easy compared to B757 and A300, and most of the intl flying is better than the B767, FWIW
The downside to being on the MD is that the progression up the seniority list in the seat is SLOW and painful as senior FOs from other fleets figure out that its not a bad lifestyle.
Just my thoughts

Why are guys coming to UPS. With all the retirements at AA, UAL and DAL it seems faster upward movement. Just saw 2 guys from SWA and 1 from UAL in recent class. Last year we had two guys with 5 yrs at UAL leave to start here. I'd love to know what guys think now after being here awhile. Honest question. After being here for some time, I'd say the life style and culture is not worth the money but after 12 years way past V1. There seems to be better choices.

Because the stagnation you suffered through the last decade dealing with the parking of the classics, Age 65, then the Great Recession and RIF isn't likely to repeat itself.
Because retirements here lag the curve of the other majors but are accelerating, both due to Age 65 retirements and folks hitting 30 YOS for their A-Plan starting later this year...and basically equalize in 10-12 years.
Because the -8s were announced to Wall Street as growth airframes needed for increased air volume, not replacements for the big tops or MDs...which means hiring for growth and not just attrition.
Because the company, culture and job (while not without flaws) isn't nearly as bad as some would lead others to believe...the same stupidity that occurs here occurs elsewhere.
Because of the long-term earning potential.
YMMV, caveat emptor, Expectation Zero and all that...

Pay/A fund/benefits have been far greater at UPS the last 10 years. QOL not so much. With the pay being about equal now at the legacies, most of the guys I know would stay at their legacy if given the choice today.
There has to be an underlying reason for pilots today besides the grass is greener. Someday, they'll realize it's because the grass is on the septic tank.
