EY questions

Hello everyone.
I have an application in with Emirates and am really looking at putting in an application to EY. Money not being my prime concern as with either jobs I would be taking a pay cut and be giving up my command. I am much more concerned with quality of life and a move to Abu Dhabi or Dubai would be a big, big improvement on where I am now. I have no preference for narrow or wide body, I have flown both and found each to have its good points.
With that in mind if anyone could answer any or all of these questions I would be very grateful. For what its worth I am early 30's, single and no kids
1) Do you generally get to take all your leave in a year?
2) How is the staff travel on a leisure rebate?
3) Do you have to do the full UAE ATPL exams on arrival?
4) Are EY crew a nice bunch to work with?
5) Finally, what if anything do you think is better about working for EY than EK?
Best regards to all.

I would love to hear from he guys that have been at EY for a while. I'm a 49 year old USAir/ American instructor/evaluator on the 320. Due to my background, time abroad I've been offered a DEC on the 320 at EY. I've lived abroad before (Riyadh, China) but I'd like to hear from guys there if in their opinion would you leave AA, being almost 50 and prob 2500-3000 from the bottom, prob looking at 5-7 years to upgrade, to be a DEC 320 guy at EY. any pros/cons, thoughts on this would be very appreciated. Also my sons are 16 and 14, any truth to once 18 they have to leave the country?
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance
I'd say do not leave USAir/AA for Etihad at that age and especially with kids in their teens. At least let your kids finish high school in the States before taking off for overseas.
15 years at EY versus 15 more in the States. Man, after a few months of night turns to India on the A320 you'd be begging to go back to AA. Add to that the stress of dealing with everything in the UAE over living in the USA and it's no contest.
I strongly advocated for guys to look at overseas jobs all the way back to the beginning of the "lost decade", and I was right. It worked out very well for those of us furloughed, downsized, stagnant at the regionals, or otherwise unable to realize our career goals in the USA.
Now that the "lost decade" is over and there is growth in the USA it would be foolish to leave a good job at a major to go overseas. A large number of American pilots at EK have applied to the majors, many of whom are widebody captains. That should tell you a lot right there.

Typhoon,
Thank you very much for the insight. I was pretty much at that decision anyway but always best to bounce it off someone who's been there, knows what their talking about. I know Abu Dhabi is worlds better but even with the pay I was getting and no job in states(furloughed from USAir 07-10) living in Riyadh was def. a low point in my career...

Etihad
Hello gents/ladies,
I am new to this forum and preparing my application for Etihad. Anyone could share some information about their screening process? ( technical and interview questions, simulator profile ...etc).
Thanks and happy landings.

With the current rate of expansion some of your questions are difficult to answer. Upgrade for narrow and wide body is 5500tt with either time on type or time in the company. While a quasi seniority system exists to move to bigger aircraft, the fleets are separated according to manufacturer. Cross fleet transfers go very senior. Airbus has the most types, thus the most amount of movement within. Career progress, lifestyle choice, and expansion has made a logical path very difficult to define. FO's who joined over the last 18 months were able to bid to the 380, while very senior staff numbers stay 320 FO's to gain experience/sectors. Some remain on the wide body fleet in hopes of avoiding a narrow body upgrade. The short answer is there is a lot of opportunity and movement, but nothing is set in stone.

My guess, based off what I've been hearing lately, is that if you were hired today you would probably be offered 787.

What's the general morale like at EY for the crews? Is it a generally happy company or are T&Cs being eroded away and crew worked ever harder as they seem to be at EK resulting in some angry and frustrated pilots?
I'm guessing that without any union, if they want to they can Royally shaft you at a whim.

Hi, im an A320FO, 3500TT, 3000 on A320, do you guys think there would be any chance to get onto A330/340 ?
At my current airline I'm scheduled to go on a B787 in January, would it be better to have B787 Type before trying an interview with EY ?
Thanks for all the posts!
