Hey it was a mile away in DC too. More than once they needed me on a DH but the doors were closing in 10 minutes, and there was still security for us to go through. So you just told them I'll try knowing it wasn't going to happen.

Yeah true. Outside TSA was pretty bad. Only thing that could make it worse would be a sewage pipe running through it...

The RR doesn't need to be at the aircraft in 5 minutes. The RR has to be within 5 minutes of the RR room, or have his luggage with him. This means an RR could sit in the RR room at IAD all day, and then take the shuttle over to the A gates, and he is still fine according to the contract. It could take 10-20 minutes depending on the shuttle's position at the time of the call, and he's still fine because he was doing exactly what he was supposed to be doing.

"If a Ready Reserve is more than a five-minute walk away from the RR Room, he must be in complete uniform and have all required equipment on his person."
Having sat ready for a year in DC this is not a big deal. What it does prevent are the guys who'd be in pajamas or sitting at their crash pad in crystal city.

We already had clauses keeping people from doing that. IIRC the last contract said “on airport property”. Punish the people already breaking the contract, don’t put in a new clause that makes me have to lug my bags any time I want to get Starbucks.

If you don’t mind just planting yourself in the ready room it’s fine. I like walking around and getting some exercise. It’s a little insulting that I have to walk around with 3 bags if I want to grab Tortas Fronteras or get my steps in for the day.

Also 3 bags? You a pilot or flight attendant?

I pick up some stuff when it works out in my advantage. But otherwise the math very much works out based on average hours I credit for the year based on my current captain pay rate. And I'm not maxed out on the pay scale either. This year if I factor 1.5% October plus longevity plus 2% multiplied by average credit it's $6800. The following year if I happen to still be here, which is unlikely, it would be pretty close to the same. I also should look into how much I'd gain with the NOM gone. It's probably worth an easy 1k a year as well. My pay stubs don't lie so you may as well give it up.

Some of you really get all bent out of shape for no reason. I wouldn't lug my bags to Starbucks or Tortas. It's close enough to 5 minutes as far as I'm concerned. Maybe just don't go hang in the far corners of the international terminal completley unprepared.

Suitcase, chart case, lunch box- some of us don’t enjoy eating Applebee’s every meal.
