They can which is complete BS, I’m sorry but if there is a pilot junior to me on furlough (still on the seniority list)there is no need to junior man anyone as the company is in situation due to their miss management of crews. They have the pilots on the seniority list and due to a poor management decision to save a penny they decided they didn’t need the next pilot on the list, they can’t say they don’t need pilots at the same time they are junior manning. Forcing one guy to work while telling another to stay home we don’t want you is about as unethical as one company can get. There really should be a no junior man or re-route into an extension if a single pilot is on furlough.
just think for the last 6 months they received government money to cover 75% of employee pay compared to pst year. Last year the average pilot credited 100ish hours a month, with 2 months at 60 hours and 4 months at 75 which 70 hours they received money for 75 hours. This doesn’t include any of the stay home lines. They have literally made money off us during the pandemic and can’t figure out a way to keep us on the books for one extra day. Pathetic greedy company and I hope it fails, any company that screws its employees on purpose to benefit the owner should just close. I Know that if I get furloughed I won’t be coming back. This company expects us to give up everything for them the second times even get remotely hard for them they won’t give an inch but expect us to do every thing to keep them afloat.

Look, I get they aren't completely innocent, but there aren't really other jobs right now and there are over 500 pilots and around 250 flight attendants relying on that company to hopefully get through this so we all have jobs on the other end. I for one hope no other companies fail during this.

It is pretty foolish, I have been feeding this company for just under 2 years getting abused doing whatever they want. Now they are gonna reach out and bite my hand?? Nope. I am sorry but the company needs labor to survive, labor doesn’t need the company. When the market turns around there will be other companies out there hiring just like before, might take a few years but it will happen. I have other skills and a several year savings account. I will be just fine. It’s not the furlough that the issue, it’s the fact they are planning on it being short term, meaning they know something is down the pipe and they still want us, they just don’t want to pay us. It’s a fact that after a furlough between 30-50% don’t return.

I don’t even see anything creative coming out of the Union, something like offering the stay at home option to everyone who has been on property over 10 years, for every one of those the savings in that would allow one junior person to stay. But nope, they see that as keeping 2 people when they only need one even though the cost is the same. The company doesn’t care about its workers therefor it’s workers shouldn’t care about the company.
i get the whole company closing sucks for lots of people, but so does furloughing when there isn’t a need. We both know the company will overestimate the furlough and people will be getting junior named in the first 2 weeks. The company will do anything to pad the owners pockets, they give 2 craps about a single employee

ZW is one big family right? So why is my family not worth supporting? I get it if the company has no chance of surviving without furloughs but the company will survive with or without, they are just deeming my family not worth it short term. They rather put 180 pilots on the street with no income so that the owners can keep the millions “they earned”. They have the money to pay everyone, they just rather not in order to pad their pockets then expect us to come running back to them as soon as they need us. Companies that don’t take care of employees shouldn’t survive.

when I had my own businesses I knew their success depended on having good loyal employees. People make an organization not the other way around.
The furlough can last anywhere between 12 and 36 months. Does management really think pilots will come running back or take up other possibly better opportunities when this subsides? It’s only the diehards that’ll come back or stay.
And quite correctly said, they have money, they just don’t want to pay people. They know if people quit they can be replaced with the next hiring and bonus spree so they don’t care. We’re expendable.
By way not giving people their one year bonus was another example of bs.
180 pilots on the street and many with families and children. You think many people care if the company survives or not when it doesn’t care about their families at home and how the company’s decisions have a domino effect on them? Then you take the current economic situation which is a shambles to rub salt on the wound.
The simple fact is we’re on our own, the company doesn’t care, the union can’t do anything for us and the only link we now have is a phone call from the company and nothing else.

It is obviously the first aviation rodeo for a few of you. This is not the first time and definitely not the last time airlines have furloughed.
Some of you may have been sold on that quick upgrade and cpp to united but probably looking at another decade at a regional.
