Air Wisconsin
#755
No flame here, I simply am just not in "the know" with Air Wisky...
I have a family friend only a few months out of college just now hitting the mins for his R-ATP.
He has been offered October CRJ class dates for both Air Wisky and Mesa.
What is Air Wisconsin's future plans? Do they have one?
Am I hearing correct that their contract with UsAir expires next year and the aircraft time out in 2016 or 2017?
Can anyone currently employed there shed some light on any of this stuff?
Thanks.

The airplanes don't time out they start coming off lease
AWAC is privately held, thus no disclosure of the contract terms with Airways (now AAG)
According to Rankin at the beginning of this year, the contract doesn't just end with Airways, the term is indefinite but the rates reset. AWAC has bent over Airways for the past nine years and that is about over with.
The company is investing money into the operation. A couple years ago they put a good chunk of change into their online scheduling system, and apparently are seriously considering iPads into the cockpits of their planes. That is not the sign of a company who is wringing the last bit of profit out but you never know.
I'm not currently employed there, but was not too long ago.

There are no delays...at least one class a month for the rest of the year...and no this does not mean there is blood in the water...hiring will continue indefinitely is what we are being told.
The pace may have slowed partially because they hired rapidly in the first half to absorb 117...just like everyone else.
Plus...the US Airways contract extension to 2017 is based a loan given to Airways by AWAC back in 2008.
It is AWAC's choice to invoke the extension if they meet incentives and they have already met them....which is my understanding even though it has not been officially announced. My best guess is the company may be trying to figure out how to best leverage that extension into a longer term plan with AA...thus the silence about it.
So...not part of the original question...but that needed to be stated since it's popular for trolls on this site to say AWAC is closing down next year...

I explained the reason a few posts ago...class sizes are about right at the moment..they can ramp up again if needed... I had my class date pushed back six weeks...and that was two years ago...it happens

The contract with US ends sometime in 2015. It could possibly be extended but from what has been floating around it would only be for something like 25-30 of their CRJ-200's and the rate structure would have to be much lower then it currently is. Airways has not been happy with ZW for years and at one point had looked to end the contract outright, but there were 2 things that didn't benefit them (US), 1 being they had no replacement to fly all of the routes that would be available and the other was a financial penalty for ending the contract early. So US has been basically stuck with them. There still is the possibility that ZW will continue to fly for US/AA for years to come but it would be in no way as large of an operation like it is today (71 a/c) and as always its all about the mighty $$$, if someone can do it cheaper the flying becomes theirs. Will be interesting to see what happens.
