The problem for reserve contract improvement language is the fact that the guys on reserve are:
1. Junior in both seats.
2. A minority of the pilot group.
As such the NC and MEC are more inclined to spend their "negotiating capital" on pay and work rules (scheduling, etc.) that benefit the majority of the pilot group. If your LEC reps can convince them to make reserve rules changes a priority then go for it.
However, since the advent of block representation, the small base F/Os pretty much lost their voice and vote at the MEC level.

That mentality needs to go the way of the dodo bird. And with 2% foreseeable growth, more pilots are going to be on reserve for a longer time. And how do you give up something to gain something when you're already #6 and falling compared to the 8 big major passenger airlines left?

How original. The "you'll be senior some day!" argument.

Amen to that, these poor guys and gals are stuck for who knows how long and this guy has no clue. Bet if he went on reserve for a month his tune would change. Packrat, brother please try and have some compassion for those that are stuck at the bottom for the next 5 years. Some subtle language changes to reserve rules could go a long way to ease there suffering for a long time.

Seems like there should be a critical mass of folks interested in reserve improvements...
Junior CA's plus almost all FO's (who will someday be junior CA's) all have a vested interest.

That was the theory used in the pre-Kasher negotiation. You all know how well that worked out. 20% pay cut for the Captains, 35% pay cut for the F/Os closely followed by a 3 year furlough.
I'm all for you guys getting what you deserve. Just pick your battles. Answer your questionnaire. I'll bet you reserve rules take a back seat to just about everything else.

I'm not setting low expectations. Most of you rank and file guys don't have a clue how contract negotiations work. You seem to think the Union can just go in and demand what they want.

I’m hoping industry standard is a battle our mec is willing to fight this time around. If they come to us with their usual, higher 12 year captain rates and third rate language for everything else, then it’s time for us “rank and file” drones to do our part and vote it down while our superiors, like yourself of course, tell us that we should be greatful to live in gig harbor.
Personally, I’m fairly envious of the guys that can afford Gig Harbor. Because of the way I was treated I’m now being forced into a short sale of my home.

Depends on age... a young person *could* start over and suck it up for a while and be better off in the long run.
An older pilot, not so much... might need the CA pay to fund the retirement (especially VX guys, typically refugees from BK airlines).
