Even a Company like SWA is realizing that betting on one horse can be very bad for business, as seen with the MAX debacle!
Alaska must seriously consider the Airbus especially since they can also see the MAX issues and we already have been making solid profits with a mixed fleet!
If Alaska decides against Airbus I personally think this will be a big mistake since we have everything in place for a dual fleet already and reverting back to a single fleet is just a mistake unless of course they are seeing the writing on the Wall for a future Merger and just don’t care for the long term outlook...

It's not MAX vs bus, it's MAX vs. NEO.

NEO is pricey to begin with. MAX discounts have obviously been getting deeper and deeper since MCAS and now covid. At some price point even an objective observer has to agree that the MAX is a smokin' deal, even with all of its warts. I'm guessing that price point has already been reached, possibly with more to come.

What more do you need to know?

Or SWA is seeing what kind of a deal they can really squeeze out of Boeing.

Betting your airlines entire future on an aircraft that’s already well past its sell by date seems pretty short sighted.
I’d imagine that’s why southwest is looking elsewhere.

Well... since SWA says they're looking at the A220, they're probably just exploring the concept of big RJ's that could make a go in markets too small for a 73.

TransWorld 10-28-2020 08:56 PM

Would they be slated to replace the Airbus? Or addition to the fleet?

Please forgive me if it has been asked before.

Or it could be that southwest sees the 73’s not being around forever, because it’s not a modern plane and they’d like their airline to outlast the aircraft.

The max 7 is the same size as the 737-700 is the same size as the A220-500. With all the training and parts etc set up for the 737 max not to mention the orders why get a new airframe that's basically what you already have?
maybe they're looking at the A220 because they want a bigger Boeing and Boeing knows that whatever they buy next they'll order at least 200 of them and its posturing.
regardless it's always posturing and trying to get a better deal.
