Multiplying the stupidity by merging would be disastrous for both pilot groups…..Growth is only good when it is well executed…The merging of Alaska and JetBlue would be akin to the doubling in size of a cancerous tumor…
You always exploit the largest groups in the markets you primarily serve. It's good for business.

It obviously makes sense, the problem is and always has been the personalities at both HQ's.

Whats funny about that, is that if you go to the JetBlue message board and read about their recruiting and attrition issues, it might as well be a carbon copy of the statements made here.

I really wish I could have sympathy for their “business model” woes, but just like the rest of corporate America, the productivity and management salaries graphs since about 1980 in this country have increased exponentially while wages across the board have remained relatively flat by comparison, and even though I’m a solid believer in capitalism, “trickle down” theory is like a two valve hose connector on the side of your house. One hose carries water to the institutional investor and one carries it to the workforce. Hard working folks in this country in all sectors (pilots included) have been told for 40 years some version of “aren’t you lucky we let you work here”…. “you need to be thankful you at least have a job”…. and now, unfortunately for them, while they’ve replaced gas station attendants and check out clerks with card swipes, and continue to march toward putting truckers out of work with self driving 18 wheelers,…. the traveling public can’t “self-fly” themselves in a jet, and robotic automation hasn’t kicked us out of the cockpit… yet. And when you point those disparities, their answer is, “sure, your pay hasn’t risen the same as management, but, but look at all the cool crap you can by from Dollar General, because we outsourced all our manufacturing…. if you don’t like it, either become a senior manager or learn how code.”

BM came to Alaska in 08 when jobs were scarce and workers were plentiful. Those are the conditions where his star rose. Unfortunately, for him the landscape has changed quite a bit since 08, but his playbook hasn’t. The wishbone offense made Bear Bryant the winningest coach in college football…. right up until it didn’t.

Every so often I think, maybe APC has changed and it has become a group of pilots collaborating to share industry news, views and insight. Then I read a comment like yours and I realize unfortunately it’s the same as it’s always been, 5% useful information, 95% vile people spewing hatred and division because their pathetic life is so disappointing the only way they can justify their existence is disparaging people and spreading hatred. You are the worst of this website and quite frankly this country.

Come on now Duramax. Cut him some slack. “The worst of this website and quite frankly this country.”? Don’t ya think that’s a tad hyperbolic? The enlightened in those cities have been lookin down their nose at all the “redneck, gun totin, racist, bigoted, homophobic, Bible thumping, big government hatin, rubes” in flyover country my entire life…. and now, just like that, they are fleeing those urban utopias for the sweet green grass of low taxes, and comparatively cheap real estate.

Now I personally dig most of our urban cities on a limited basis, plus I don’t care where I layover for the most part, so I don’t share 9Mike’s antipathy for those areas. But, I noticed you’ve been fairly broad brushed in criticism at times as well. That doesn’t make you the worst of this website or the country. It just makes you like everyone else on here… someone with time, an opinion, and a keyboard.

I always thought we were supposed to be Americans first, no matter where you came from. Now it seems whatever state leans towards politics wise you must hate a state or a city because it is different from you politically. I find that absurd. Politics is supposed to be an ideological exercise of debate, not your identity. Now people see themselves as liberal or Republican first. It’s quite clear that post is from someone who watches Fox News nonstop so they get their marching orders to hate Seattle and Portland. Never mind that most people who live in these places are just normal folks going to work everyday. It’s the same people who hate California, forget that the majority of the whole country gets its fresh food from the state. And I would agree, it’s both sides, I just see the vitriol for hating whole swaths of this country and it’s residents seems to be a particularly popular thing in the Tucker Carlson fan base.

Yeah…. I hear ya brother…. and I really don’t want this to turn into thread creep here, cause honestly, the amazing thing you need to know about what’s going on here at Alaska in the pilot ranks is that, on April 1st, assuming 9Mike was off work, pretty decent chance he and over 1500 of his Alaska compadres, crossing literally every line of the political/social/gender/geographic/racial spectrum was and is unified in telling management…. “Y’all need to listen up.” So we can all live where we want, vote how we want, support the causes we want, etc. We got hard right wingers, hard left wingers and everything in between here man. And for the vast majority rock solid professionals to share a few hours in the cockpit with. 👍🏻

This past election cycle divided us like no other in my life. I’m not sure what happened to vote move on and hope whoever wins does a good job? Personally I like every state for different reasons and none of those reasons have anything to do with politics.
