Sounds like you’re confusing the wide body A300 development with the A320 development. Google has the first A300 flight in 1970, the first A320 flight in 1987 and the first 321 flight in 1993. 6 years between 320 and 321 is hardly lipstick. Boeing took 21 years to stretch the 737 when they introduced the 400 in 1988.

Shrooms much….Can’t think of an aircraft more outdated than a 737MAX. The paper ECAM or EICAS for starters. The absolute lack of ETOPS redundancy. Regulators call the 737 ETOPS “paper etops” because that is all it is….Not knockin the jet. Great domestic north/south airliner. Does a decent job of mid-con as well. Great little airliner
