I.e. your kids are all grown up. RN this doesn’t affect me, but it might some day. Just like being on reserve again as a junior CA. I fly with enough naive goodjet types who never saw how lousy it can be when you’re junior. But the few who have senior friends that snag them a week or two of summer vacation for them are doin just fine.

Not to mention a week of vacation allows a junior pilot to bid RLL and skip being on reserve entirely during the worst possible months to be on reserve.
Why is it ok for a friend to give you vacation? This is a slap in the face to people who bid for it and couldn’t hold it. Don’t bid for summer vacation if you plan on giving it away!

Why stop there? What about if he trades a senior pairing?

The Hawaiian PWA has provisions that address this for pairings. It also has provisions that prevent what’s happening with your summer vacation.

Nice that’s great no need to throw stones brother we are all in this together. Honestly it’s not happening enough for me to worry about. Would rather get higher allocation and higher credit per day.

I’m like Shy I don’t really see anything wrong with this. I like our current system just want more allocations during those 3 low months.

A big improvement in the last contract was vacation any. I believe it’s extremely under utilized by this group but can add good flexibility in your vacation months.
You guys also don’t have seniority based premium pay. Is it ok to have a buddy in scheduling who lets you know when a premium trip is about to drop into opentime? It’s ok because you have small kids and need the money more than everyone else?

And just curious if you could post the language you’re talking about. Interested to see how it’s worded, one man’s trash….all these things you talk about are very subjective to the individual.

Section 6.K.7

Vacation time from July 1 through September 15 and December 20 through January 3 awarded and subsequently vacated before the runs are posted for that month shall be offered at the time vacated to pilot(s) in order of Seniority, beginning with the pilot just junior to the pilot who vacated the bid

Section 22.I.4.b

One-Sided Trade: One (1) Bid Run pilot may pick up a Flight Grouping from another Bid Run pilot (with their concurrence) for no Flight Grouping in return. Such one-sided trades shall only be allowed through an online trade board on a first-come, first-served basis. The intent of this provision is to allow a pilot to drop a Flight Grouping that they would otherwise not be able to drop due to minimum staffing. It is not intended for senior pilots to bid for Flight Groupings in order to drop them to junior pilots who could not otherwise hold them. If the MEC feels at any time that this provision is being abused, it may at its sole discretion direct that this function of the Program be disabled.

We have had issues with married people giving senior trips to their junior spouses. MEC warned them that they would lose trading privileges if it continued
