What do you mean “cancel?”
You can either trade pilot-to-pilot, or trade with opentime days (in which case your days are dumped into opentime vacation and anyone can take it), or you can sell your vacation to the company when the chance is offered contractually. In that case I don’t think your vac is dumped into opentime, the days are just sold back to the company.

In theory, it's a problem and I find it distasteful but in reality how do you fix it?
Plus the senior guy probably was just going to take it all in Jul and Dec anyway, he only traded because it was his kid... not like he was going to do that for you under any circumstances.
Only fix is probably ban all trading. Otherwise trading that benefits *you* is OK, but when it benefits somebody else it's nepotism, insider trading, etc. Where do you draw the line?

There is no cancel provision here. You have vacation days and if you don’t want it in a certain month, you trade it away for another month.

The ability to trade P2P and from just regular vacation opentime. The ability to split vacation in unlimited blocks (as long as it’s 2 consecutive days minimum).

Hawaiian you can have single days of vacation. Only requirement is two days in between vacation days. People used to bid one on one off and get a whole month off that way
