Cost was always the reason, but it falls apart with scrutiny.

The MAX is 4 years delayed, and Alaska is now forced to cannibalize its own network to expand into new markets.

How much will it cost in burned bridges and lost loyalty? How much will it cost to lose presence in markets in major cities on both coasts?

These go beyond numbers on a spreadsheet, but I'm certain these factors exceed the cost delta of having a dual fleet.

I agree, but I think they're operating on the ASSumption that everything will be better going forward. Due to SEA ecosystem there are strong gravitational forces pulling them in that direction.

There is reasonable hope that Ortberg can eventually un-eff it all. But I also think our current regime won't tolerate further major shenanigans from Boeing. Of course even if they commit to dual fleet today, it would be years before they start taking deliveries.

This management will NEVER truly be able to think like a global airline. Never.

They bought HAL for literally that reason. But they don’t need two NB fleets to pull it off.

Buying HAL is great but if you don't use the people who actually know global airline operations, and you simply install NB super regional management, that is exactly what you are going to get.

We'll be a global airline like WestJet is a global airline.

All because you have destinations across oceans does not make you a global airline.

United shifted gears 18 months ago. Those brand new A321s are now clogging SAN taxiways.

There's a saying about the best time for planting a tree. The best time was 20 years ago. The 2nd best time is now.

Watching the 787 park at the N gates was borderline embarrassing yesterday. The ramp crew wasn’t ready. Just like they aren’t ready for a 737. Nothing shocking there. However, a 787 parking at the west corner of the N gates blocks the Bravo taxiway and stops all aircraft taxing north to runway 16R. Or anywhere north of the N gates. It took a comical amount of time and also prevented us from parking as well. So I had a great view of the entire debacle from M holding short of 16L.

Hopefully operations gets ***** slapped by the Port if they keep running things as poorly as they have been. It’s a real shame what is happening around here. Nothing we can do or say to stop it, sadly.

You get what you pay for. Come Jan 1 we also will be paid less then our peers, but make sure you taxi on one engine and only take type 1.

How many of our peers will be downgrading captains in 2026?
