Its cheaper to lower standards than to raise pay to attract pilots.

Hi AS,

I am a former C-17 pilot and current regional FO at SkyWest. I recently attended a AS Job Fair event and it went very well. I was told I was "what they were looking for and was good to go" and they were going to try and get me an interview in October, if not then Jan/Feb 2018. That was over a month ago and I have not heard anything but "crickets".

Two questions:

Does anyone have any experience with how long it took from job fair to getting a phone call?

Do they not hold interviews in Nov/Dec? Holidays?

Sorry to come on here and seek out info but the silence is deafening.

Thanks in advance for any info.

HR makes the calls and no one can figure out what order they go in. I was not called until I gave up and figured they never would. Got the call 2 days later. Yes, last war they did interviews in November and December.

They are just slow.

You're better off at Delta.

Why not big DL? You could be flying the heavy out of the PNW in a year.

My apps are out....

Being a native in the PNW I've always been partial to AS and would love to hear from them. I feel like the community fits my personality and when I fly a SkyWest tail painted with AS colors everyone seems happy (seriously even your gate agents are cheery, not sure how you pull that off, try to strike up a convo with a United ORD gate agent, I dare you). Don't care much about wide body, done that. Care more about having a smile on my face when I go to work and making a living wage. Feel like AS fits my bill.

However, at this point, whoever will actually call me back is the best damn airline in the world if you ask me.

DL is great, and my app is in. Lots of guys I used to fly with are happy there. Not sure my app is competitive. GPA isn't exactly 4.0.

Maybe with United firing up hiring soon it will put pressure on hiring departments across the board?

Fingers crossed

At least delta has a scope clause. Ask AS pilots how they feel about the OO flying.

Nice post, and you're right about everyone at Alaska being really happy.. even the mechanics are chatty and social. It is a very nice work environment (not talking about management or negotiations).

Good luck getting hired.

I'll second that. Everybody I've met so far has been flat-out nice, and really welcoming. (And no, they don't spew Kool-Aid®. Get them on that topic and they'll give you a piece of their mind. Ouch.)

The CP is a C-17 guy BTW. Good luck.
(I spent a long time in limbo myself, thinking they must have shredded or lost my application. They're not real big on communication.)

That's the very attitude that got the pilots into the scuffle their in now with mgt. Come to work to be compensated equal to your peers at UAL, DL or AA. Get a boat if you want to smile
