On reserve you get 12 days off per month (as well as a good portion of the hard lines get 12 days off per month at least on the 737 side). Everything you pick up on your days off on reserve gets tacked on to the 79 hr guarantee (short call) regardless of how much you fly in the month. I know this is true if you pick up from the company. I’m not sure about from another pilot. I’d imagine it still gets tacked on. Maybe someone else can chime in on this. (I commute so I don’t plan on ever doing this until I move to base and by then I’ll be a lineholder so there may not be a point.)

Reserves can only pick up open time. They can't do pilot to pilot pickup. I have no idea why but that's how the side letter was written so that's the way it is.

The reason is because we work for a ruthless management that could care less about our quality of life.

They want a reserve to work on his day off but only if it helps them become more efficient. If you fly on a day off and cover a trip out of open time it helps them tremendously.

But - If they allowed you to fly on your day off and cover your buddies trip, it does nothing for them. The trip was already covered by your buddy. Therefore, they won’t let you fly unless it benefits them, not the pilots.

This is a perfect example of how ruthless this company is. They will give you nothing, even something as simple as trying to help a buddy out on your day off.

Even if they’re ruthless, it’s nice that they don’t care less about your quality of life. Most other ruthless managements that could care less actually would care less.

We receive what we negotiate. Communicate with your ALPA rep and let them know that the ability to trip trade while on reserve is a priority for you in the next contract.

Reserve rules are rarely a negotiation priority because 90% of voting pilots are not on reserve.

Just want to clarify here that it is not 12 days off, it is a block of 120 hours off, a block of 72 hours off and two blocks of 48 hours off.

Some reserve callout times go during two calendar days, so our days off are not by calendar day but by hours.
