I beg to differ. 2-3 hours of "hey, want to get to know you" interview followed by a class date offer is hardly an adequate process. Alaska might as well have a billboard that says, "737 or Airbus type on us!".
I don't get the feeling the bar is particularly high anywhere right now. I get the impression Alaska is just cutting the time wasting out of the process...You got hours, a clean background, pass your training and come across as a good guy or gal...what else do they really need? Space shuttle time is no longer a pre-requisite thankfully.

There will be no contract before summer. The company will do just enough to keep us out of any cooling off period. The summer will be a complete disaster and nobody is going to buy us. Ever since I was hired there has always been a rumor that we would get bought. This fall the company will reinstate the stock dividend because you know "we have to protect the investors." The final kick to the nuts will be the large bonuses paid out to upper management for the difficult year that they persevered through.

Even though we are an airline and only have one reason for being in business (flying airplanes) the company will never look at us other than a problem to be managed and taken advantage of. It will not get better. The good news is I'll be taking 20 days off each month this summer via 3rd step because after more than 23 years at Alaska I still can't hold a summer vacation.

Best of luck to us.
What a damn shame!

But seriously, isn’t the “real” 3rd Step suppose to go live this summer?

Are you gonna quit and leave for the big 3?

Alaska is like our southern border. The big three have a half built wall. The bar has been repo'd because the eskimo is too cheap.

I would be happy to “walk it” all back…When eventually an impasse is declared and we clear a 30-day PEB then we shall see. The equivalent of kneeling on someones neck with a Glock pressed to to the back of their head. We are still at the “standing in the street yelling at each other” phase. Escalation to “deadly force” ie. a strike takes a long time

Because that is what it will take to eventually arrive at a TA…And have it voted down at least once before we vote yes on a contract….Do you think “those people” will treat us with respect and honor the contract that we just signed or will they be typical and Screw us at every moment

Majority of the pilots commute and Alaska's bases are located in some of the highest cost of living parts of this country. This place will shrink and hopefully be absorbed by a real airline run by management with a vision and a brain. It's looking more like Compass every day.
I’m a PNW native and I’m down with staying at Alaska for my career. Currently at QX. I think they will get a new contract and it will be a good place to be. If you ask any pilot 20-30 years ago (the amount of time I have left in my career) “the place to work” then, either doesn’t exist today or isn’t the place to be at today. My big thing is being located in the PNW, so Alaska is the best choice. A few bucks of pay really doesn’t make much of a difference to me.
